Sami didn't wait to hear any more. She raced out of the house and jumped into her car. By the time she got to the end of the driveway, tears were blurring her vision but it didn't slow her down. She threw the car into a tailspin when she got to her gate and gunned it up the driveway.
Pulling to a stop she slammed the car into park. The tears were coming full force now and she slammed her hand onto the steering wheel swearing loudly.
"That slimy sneaky little bastard. How dare he think he can fucking use me like that?" She got out of the car and slammed the door behind her. Racing up the stairs to the house, she pushed open the door and stormed inside.
Garth was in the lounge watching the television and looked up when she burst in.
"Hey Sami, what's up?" He got up and hurried over to her. "What happened, I thought you were having dinner with Mason."
"His bitch of a girlfriend showed up and announced he was doing everything he could to talk me into selling. When she walked down to the bedroom she had a pink fit."
Garth frowned, looking far wiser than his years.
"Oh no."
"Yeah, well I thought he liked me. Big frigging joke, right?" She dropped onto the couch and cried letting the tears pour down her cheeks. "How could I have been so damned stupid?"
Garth sat beside her and wrapped his arm over her shoulders. "Are you sure you have it right? I didn't think he was that kind of guy."
"Yeah. Me either. Go figure hey, we both got sucked in."
A car pulled to a halt outside and a door slammed.
"Do not let him in here or I will never forgive you." Sami glared at her brother as the panic swelled in her chest. She got up and wiping the tears from her eyes ran to her room and slammed the door.
She threw herself on the bed and cried her heart out.
By the time Garth knocked on her door she had composed herself enough to think about what had happened and to plan Mason's timely death.
"Come in." She sat on the bed and pulled her knees up. Garth walked in and sat down, his face marred by a frown. "What?"
"Um, I think you need to talk to him." He chewed on his bottom lip and looked at her. "I didn't want to hear the details but he said to tell you it wasn't what you thought it was."
"Sure, I get it. The guy is full of crap and I made a bad decision. Lesson learned."
"Don't make a mistake Sami. Find out the facts and think about it before you write him off. What if he says is true and it was a mix-up?"
"I'm not totally stupid, Garth. I know what I saw and heard. Let's move on and forget it. Thanks, little brother, I'll be okay now." She hugged him and pushed him toward the door so she could be alone.
When she heard his footsteps heading away from her room. Sami laid down on the bed and let the tears come again. Never before had she given herself to a man so quickly. Big mistake and one she now regretted.
Might have known we are not good enough for these kind of people. Being little country people from the outback, we don't stand a chance of fitting in with the guys from the big smoke.
Sami's dreams were a mixture of teasing and nightmares. When she woke the next morning her head was throbbing and her eyes were swollen from her tears. She threw back the blankets and rose from the bed. Her body was still sensitive from the night before in Mason's bed and she cursed at the memory. What she would give to have him on the level but she knew deep down they were a world apart.
By the time she was ready for work, her headache had weakened to a dull haze. She walked out to the kitchen and avoided Garth’s gaze. He nudged her toward the table and she saw he already had breakfast ready.
"Thanks, bro." She slid into a seat and held her head in her hands until he placed a mug of coffee in front of her. It was when she was on the second mug she felt ready to face the day. "What are you doing today?"
"I was going to go over to the winery and talk to James. He said I can come over any time and have a look around, but if you don't want me to..."
"Nope, you do what you like. Just because I stuffed up doesn't mean you have to hold back on what you had planned. I have stock to move so I'll see you later." She ate her breakfast before she walked out of the kitchen, her back straight and shoulders tense.
If he wheedles his way around my brother so help me I'll have his balls. She was still stewing over it when she met Tibby in the shed after checking in on her horse.
"Jeez, you look like crap. What's up?" He stood in front of her with a scowl on his face.
"And don't you look like a little ray of sunshine every morning too. Mind your own fucking business, Tibby." She walked over to the tractor, ready to climb up.
"Don't go getting all hoity toity with me missy. You look like you swallowed something that turned around and bit you. I'm allowed to be concerned and I don't care if you like it or not. Now what the heck's the matter with you?"
"Hell, fine then but don't go getting all 'oh you poor thing' on me. I went to have dinner with Mason last night and who should rock up but his girlfriend. Basically dobbed on him, told me he would
