Taking it to a grander scale like this might make it seem more personal and I really don’t want anyone to think that. I love all people. In this book, I really wanted to reflect that overheard conversation in a visceral, storytelling way and that required a blood sacrifice. Don’t…please don’t…take it to mean anything other than that. Fellas…I luv ya. I really do.
After all, the very first heroic person I wrote was an elderly man in Silo 49: Going Dark. And then there’s Sam, from the Between Life and Death series. He remains the character most people cry over, and the most quietly heroic portrait of a character I’ve ever written. Like I said, I love all people.
