He says the last word with so much promise before he disappears into the bathroom again, leaving me stunned. I blink a few times before I have no choice but to follow his instructions. I take a seat on the edge of the bed and ponder his words.
When they start to sink in, a smile spreads across my lips. He wants me to stay with him. I bite my fist to stifle my squeal as I fall back on the bed. This can’t be happening.
I pop up, sitting up straight once again and frown. One thought runs through my head.
King is going to kill us.
Chapter 4
In the Shadows
David
Somewhere in New York…
“I need more time. You have to buy me more time,” she snaps into the phone. The woman is frantic, and I can’t blame her.
The shit is getting ready to hit the fan. I have bought her all the time I can. At this point, I can do no more and I really don’t care. I need to get as far away from all of this as I can.
I will not be able to return to Brazil and most of the States are off-limits to me now. I really know how to get myself in the middle of a mess. It’s no longer worth the trouble.
I sigh heavily into the phone. I didn’t know I was digging myself into such a big hole in the beginning. These two broads are going to be the death of me if I don’t walk away now.
“There’s nothing I can do. It is already in motion. He knows everything. His new connections already wanted a reason to go after your little boyfriend and his friends.” I shrug as if she can see me. “This is on you. I have no more help for you.”
“Listen to me, you care for me, don’t you? He doesn’t even care what happens to me or his own family. I need just a little more time,” she whines and purrs as if that will make me change my mind.
I’ve learned to see through her. The manipulation on this one. Dios, I was so stupid.
“I think this is where you keep going wrong, chica. You are mistaking the feelings we men have for you. You were fun to play with in my bed. Now you have become an inconvenience. Do not call me again. I have nothing for you,” I snap into the phone. I am growing wary of all of this.
She releases a sharp gasp over the phone. I can feel her recalculating her strategies, but I will have none of it. I wave over one of my men, covering the phone, I whisper his instructions. I need to cover my tracks before I disappear. I really have made a true mess of things.
It’s not like I have ever really called any one place home, but now I’ve gotten myself into the deep end in the few places I didn’t have to watch my back in the past. I don’t want to know what my cousin has planned for me when he finds out of my involvement here.
“David, please,” are the words she settles on.
“Jemma is your only hope,” I reply and cut the call.
I place the phone to my forehead. My words are true. Jemma is her only hope. Whether I have a change of heart or that batshit crazy woman actually comes through for her, is a question of life or death for her as well as me. I just don’t think I will be sticking around to find out.
I’ve been avoiding Jemma. She’s the only one who can cause me to change my mind. I was supposed to just have fun with two hot women who showed their gorgeous asses up at my club. If I knew then any of what I know now, I would have left them right on the main dance floor and never would have invited them to the VIP lounge.
Leave it to me to fall in love with one part of a psycho duo and in lust with the other. Their crazy asses have spent the last three years talking me into all types of stupid shit and I have allowed my dick to tell me to say yes, every time.
I need to get my ass out of here before King and Brick realize what’s been going on. Dead men don’t fuck, so staying to help isn’t going to do me any good. No matter how I feel about either of them, this is finished.
What a fucking mess.
Chapter 5
Must Be a Dream
Eve
As I follow Brick back to the garage, his scent surrounds me and makes my mouth water. We step onto the elevator as Brick pulls out his phone and starts to type out a text with his long fingers.
I bite my lip and squirm beside him. I know I should say something, but I’m afraid anything that comes out of my mouth will sound stupid.
He looks up from his device and searches my face with those probing green eyes. As the elevator slowly lowers, he places his phone in his pocket and starts to crowd my space. My chest heaves in anticipation.
“You keep looking at me like that and you’re not making it to change a damn thing,” he says.
I lower my lashes and place my hands on his waist, reveling in the fact that I’m touching him so freely. When he wraps his arms around my back, I tremble and melt into him all at once.
The elevator stops right as I think I’ve found something cool to say. However, I swallow the words as Brick lifts my head to peck my lips before he turns to get off the elevator with my hand wrapped in his.
We make our way to the bike from last night
