Tonight, I’m going to ask her to marry me tonight and I want it to be perfect.
Sam stopped first at a local jewelry store. As she walked in, she felt a little nervous wondering how they would react when she explained she was there to buy an engagement ring for her fiancé, who was another woman. She took a deep breath and decided if they acted at all weird about it, she would take her business elsewhere.
“Good morning, can I help you find something in particular?” A sharply dressed younger man asked her from behind the counter as she entered the store.
She turned to him and replied “Yes, actually. I’m here to find an engagement ring for my girlfriend; I’m going to ask her to marry me.” She looked him directly in the eye, daring him to make even the slightest objection.
“Well congratulations! Do you have anything particular in mind?” His reply was cheery and sincere.
Sam relaxed. “Yes, I do. I would like something in either white gold or platinum, she doesn’t like yellow gold. I want something unique, not a cookie-cutter design. It has to be beautiful enough to be worthy of being worn on her finger.” Sam said with a smile.
The young man raised his eyebrows. “If I give you my boyfriend’s name, will you talk to him?” He laughed at himself.
Sam laughed with him. “Sure, but don’t expect me to pay for your ring too!”
“I think I have the perfect ring for her, come here and take a look.” He motioned her over to another case, where he carefully removed a single tray with the ring. He held it out to her.
Sam blinked. It was exactly what she had envisioned. The ring was platinum, with a one carat round diamond in the center. The band itself was twisted, she recognized it as an infinity band and it was covered with diamond accents. Infinity. It’s perfect… forever.
“Are you a mind reader or something?” She laughed. “It’s beautiful and exactly what I’m looking for.”
He smiled. “No, I’m not a mind reader, I just somehow knew. Do you know what her ring size is?”
“Yes, it’s five and a half. Do you think it’s possible to pick it up this afternoon? I know that’s asking a lot but I really want to ask her tonight.” Sam looked at him with anticipation, hoping her idea wouldn’t end in disappointment.
“I think we can manage that. We shouldn’t have to do too much; it looks like it’s a size six right now so sizing it won’t take long. I’ll get it polished up really well and have it all ready for you when you come back.” He patted her hand reassuringly.
“Thank God!” She laughed. “I appreciate your help so much!” She filled out the paperwork, paid for the ring and headed out to grab a few more things before stopping to pick up Jackson.
By twelve thirty, Sam had been to the jewelers, the grocery store, the flower shop and was headed to Shawn and Rebecca’s to pick up Jackson.
“Knock, knock.” She called out as she opened the front door. She peeked into the living room, seeing the most adorable scene ever, she reached for her phone to snap a picture of it. Rebecca was laying on the couch with her eyes closed and little Jackson was laying sideways behind her, with his upper body and head laying on her chest, sound asleep. Sam snapped the picture, smiling as she did. I can totally see this happening at our house soon with Jace coming home and the new baby coming. Jackson will have to share the space! She gently touched Rebecca’s arm, trying not to startle her.
Rebecca opened her eyes and smiled. “Hi.” She said sleepily. “I guess I fell asleep! Jackson was fussy so he snuggled up to me and fell asleep with me patting his butt. Poor guy couldn’t understand why he couldn’t get on my lap to go to sleep. I think he figured it out when he couldn’t find my lap!” She giggled quietly.
“Thank you so much, I am so sorry Rebecca. I should have come by earlier to get him but I figured I could get things done faster without him with me. I hope you didn’t lift him?” She frowned at her sister-in-law.
“No, I assisted him as he wiggled his way up on to the couch. I promise I did not lift him. So what’s going on today that you have all this important stuff to do?” Rebecca questioned with suspicion.
Sam grinned. “All I will say for now is that I’m working on making things official.” She reached out and carefully picked up the sleeping baby from behind Rebecca.
Rebecca squinted her eyes at Sam “With Jace or with you?” She questioned.
Sam leaned over, holding Jackson close to her and kissed her sister-in-law on the cheek. “With me. Thanks again for watching him! If you guys don’t hear from me tonight, don’t be alarmed.” Sam grinned like the devil and headed out the door. She could hear Rebecca chuckling.
Fifteen minutes later, she carefully laid Jackson in his bed. “Well thank God you are still sleeping bud because mommy has a lot to get done before mama comes home!” Sam headed to bring in the bags from the car. Once back inside, she stood for a moment in the kitchen making a mental plan of attack. First, she would cut the flowers and arrange them in a vase on the table for dinner. Then she would head downstairs to bring up the bassinet that had belonged to Jackson and now would be passed down to Jace when he came home. After that she would need to get the bedroom staged and finally she would have to run and pick up the ring, get back home and
