Closing her door, I hit the remote start so the AC will kick on and she’s not sitting in there sweating to death. Walking to the back of my truck, I stop to speak to my Prez, Shadow, Stoney, and Venom.
“What the fuck?” Stoney mutters.
“That’s my same question,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest.
“She lost a lot of weight she didn’t need to lose. Nerd looked into this place and it’s supposed to be one of the top five on the East Coast for rehabilitation. Her weight loss and not wanting to speak is not healthy,” Shadow remarks.
“Nope, I don’t like the way that bitch of a doctor kept talking and eye fucking each of us,” Venom sneers.
“I agree with you there, brother,” Stoney sighs. “Let’s get her back to the clubhouse. I’ve told Rachel we were bringing her home today. She decided to get the other ol’ ladies out of the clubhouse to give us a chance to get Harley there without them bombarding her first thing.”
Fuckin’ love Rachel.
“And you’re good with your ol’ lady being away from you all day?” Shadow asks.
“Not really, it’s why I have Whip and Coyote out with them.” Stoney smirks.
“Fuck, I don’t envy their job for today,” I mutter, thankful to not be playing babysitter to all the ol’ ladies.
“Yeah, same here. At least with Harley we’re just taking her to the clubhouse,” Venom chuckles.
“Speaking of, let’s get to it. See if you can’t get her to talk,” Stoney orders.
Nodding, I round the side of my truck and hop in. I glance over to my woman sitting in the passenger seat and furrow my brows at the way she’s clasping her hands while looking out the side window.
“Let’s get you out of here, Angel Eyes,” I say, causing her to jump as she turns to meet my gaze. Her eyes brimming with tears.
Shit. I didn’t mean to scare her.
Sighing I reach over and grab her hand. “Harley, nothing’s going to happen to you. I promise I’ll make sure no one fuckin’ hurts you ever again.”
I don’t know if she believes me or not but Harley nods her head in agreement.
Lifting her hand to my lips I press a gentle kiss to her palm. I release her hand to put the key in the ignition, turn it until the engine starts, and put it in drive. As I press the gas, I reach back over and slide my fingers through hers.
I pull out on to the main road and start up conversation telling her things I’d been up to over the past month. About how I fought every Friday and Saturday night. Told her about my brothers being there to support me. I even told her about my uncle living next to the house she was renting. I didn’t tell her that since she’s been gone the owner decided he wanted to sell it so he could buy his condo down in Florida so in turn I bought it from him and now own the place. I’ll tell her that little detail later on once I hopefully get her talking.
Chapter Eight
Harley
Something about Neo holding my hand and hearing his voice soothes me in a way I don’t understand. There’s so much I don’t understand right now my head hurts.
When we hit city limits my panic begins to rise inside me as Neo turns down the road to go to the clubhouse.
Oh no.
I can’t go there.
Th–That woman is there.
“Take me home please,” I whisper, my body starting to shake.
“What?” Neo asks, pulling over to the side of the road. “Why are you shakin’, Harley?”
I lift my gaze to see his confused one staring back at me. He hadn’t released my hand and has twisted his body toward me. I guess he’d used his left hand to put the truck in park.
The sounds of motorcycles rumble behind us. Stoney, Shadow, and Venom had followed us the entire way here and are still behind us as we sit still on the side of the road leading to the clubhouse.
God knows the thought of going there makes my stomach churn.
“Take me home please,” I say, repeating myself.
“Angel Eyes, you gotta stay with me for now,” he says gently.
“No,” I say breathily as I shake my head in denial while closing my eyes.
There’s a tap on the window and then the window is down. My panic starts to get the best of me.
“What’s going on?” Stoney asks.
“I don’t know. Harley just spoke for the first time since we picked her up,” Neo says.
My door opens and my other hand is takin’ into one just as big as Neo’s massive one. “Harley, what’s going on?” Stoney asks.
“Take me home please,” I whisper. “I can’t go there, not again. I don’t want it to happen again.”
“What to happen again?” Neo demands, his hand tightening around mine.
Maybe if they know what happened they’ll take me home and not make me see that dreadful woman again.
I take a deep breath and open my eyes. “I don’t want her to touch me again.”
“Angel Eyes, who are you talkin’ about?” Neo growls.
“I don’t know her name but . . . but the last time I’d been at the clubhouse she cornered me. Said if I didn’t stop coming here she’d do to me what Mareena and Charlotte did. She put her hands on me,” I sob, admitting to what happened for the first time.
“Fuck,” Neo mutters, releasing my hand as my other is released. Neo opens his door and gets out of the truck, rounds the hood then stands where Stoney had been. He reaches in, releases my seatbelt, and pulls
