He opens the door and holds it for me to pass through first, out of respect. “Not this much drama I don’t!” Spotting Marion and Troy lying on each other on the couch, reading separate magazines, Bobby grumbles, “I want that!”
“I want it, too,” I joke, calling over to tease them as I head for some water from the fridge. “You guys going to lounge around all day while I work?”
Troy volleys back, “Don’t give me that shit. You know I just got home from meetings with developers.”
“I’m just lying around,” Mar calls over with a challenge in her voice, eyes on the article she’s invested in.
Bobby throws his keys in the air and catches them, “Says the goddess who bagged a role in the new Alliance production!”
She grins at him, “Tell Samantha Cocker to suck on that one time.”
Troy nudges her with his chin. “I thought she didn’t audition.”
Mar hits him. “Shut up! Let me have my fantasy!”
He laughs and pulls her closer, while Bobby opens the front door, moonlight pouring in since it’s wintertime and the sun goes down way too fucking early.
Leaning against the counter, I drink a chilled glass of H2O and watch my better halves snuggling, their noses returning to the pages.
With Bobby gone, it’s just us again. My second favorite part of the day is this, when nobody will bother us and we can do whatever we want.
But nothing beats waking up together, Mar sandwiched between us men. We’ve gotten into a groove where she’s always buried in the nook of my neck when I wake up, since I sleep on my back. Behind her, Troy spoons her body and keeps her back warm. She gets cold easily. Not anymore.
I used to think I loved the life of a bachelor. Now I know I was just getting by. Keeping people at arm’s length may have meant little hassle, but it meant little gain, too.
‘Normal’ — we’ll leave that for other people to be bored by.
Life is what you make of it.
We made it our own.
Don’t know what our future holds, or how long we can keep this up. But I’m a happy man with a happy man and an even happier, greedy woman.
