“Date night. Hm. We might have to do that when we have kids,” he teased, smiling his cheeky smile.
Kids. Huh.
“This is where I was sitting when I first saw you,” he continued, sounding pensive all of a sudden. “Life has changed so much. For the better.” He lifted my hand to his lips, letting them linger on my skin before resting it on his thigh.
I turned to watch his profile. Strong brows, straight nose, bold chin. Freckled face. I’d never get sick of that view.
“Yes, it has. I’m so glad you broke my tailbone.”
His deep laugh rumbled. Life is fucking fantastic.
“Hello.”
I frowned at the tiny woman watching us from the path. Long, blonde hair with pale pink highlights twisted in a pile on her head, topped a gorgeous face. She was dressed to grace the runway. High heeled boots, beautiful long jacket over a bright, funky dress. The combination worked well and it was unique.
“Are you going to answer me, or have you forgotten me already?” I recognised that snark.
“Felicity?” God. I hadn’t seen her in months.
“Finally!” She rolled her eyes. “You two are disgusting in public, by the way.”
“Look away.” I laughed. “How are you?”
“I’m great. I’m off to the US to live with my brother. Chris has been really supportive. He came to stay with me for a while after … you know. I just needed to get away. Start fresh.” She dropped her eyes to her boots as she scuffed them along the pavement.
“I think that’s a great idea. Good luck with everything. I’d like to stay in touch, if you want?”
“I’d like that. Thanks. Good luck to you too.” She started to turn away, but she twisted back to face me. “Thank you, Ronnie.”
I nodded before she glided off on her heels to her new life.
“Wanna come home with me?” Brad ran a finger down my cheek to catch a tear.
“Is that a proposition?”
“Always. Everything I say to you has a dirty thought behind it. You should know this by now.”
“Pfft. Incorrigible.”
He pulled me up and started jogging, pulling me behind.
“What are you doing?”
“Thinking dirty thoughts!”
Huh. Of course, he was. Thank God.
I saw a flash of yellow as we ran along the river. Tish with her thumbs up and a brilliant glow around her. She’s saying goodbye. I nodded, mouthing ‘thank you,’ before she vanished.
Gift or curse?
Gift, definitely gift.
