dragon.”

I see Reagan cringe. No sister wants to hear her brother refer to his dick as a dragon. Her face made me laugh out loud though. “Gahhh, that’s disgusting, but yes, go.” She shooed him away. “We’ll keep her company while you’re gone.”

He leaves to walk across the field to the restrooms and Reagan comes to stand beside me. “So, he already won you a prize, I see.”

“Yep, took him four ring tosses to win it. I suck at those ring toss games. They’re rigged. I don’t know how he did it.”

“When he puts his mind to something, he’s damn determined to get what he wants. If he wanted to win that unicorn for you then he would have. He doesn’t take things lightly. If you don’t watch out, he’s gonna try and steal your heart tonight.”

“I think he already has…” I whispered quietly to myself.

“What’d you say?”

“Oh, nothing.”

“Uh-huh,” She said grinning at me.

“So, where are you all headed off to next?” I asked, trying to divert the conversation away from talk of my heart.

“Well, Rhett wanted fair junk food. Then we’ll hit the tilt a whirl, maybe play some games, and then go and sing ridiculous songs with terrible voices. You should meet up with us later.” Rhett nodded his head in agreement.

“Alright, well we’ll think about it. Let me see what Beau wants to do. Hey, before you go…can I get a copy of that picture you took of Beau and me?”

“Oh yeah, sure. I’ll send it over now.”

“Thanks. You guys can go ahead and go. I’m sure he won’t be that much longer,” I said looking over toward the field where Beau had gone.

“You sure?”

“Yeah, I’m a big girl. I think I can handle it.” I winked at her for good measure.

I was walking back to where I left Cassidy Mae when I realized she was standing there all alone in the middle of the game booth midway. Anger flared within me. I told them to wait with her. She didn’t need to be left alone. We still had no idea if the threat of Devin still lingered.

“Where are they?” I asked accusingly when I got back to Cass.

She huffed, “I told them to leave, Beau. I don’t need a babysitter. We haven’t heard from or seen Devin in weeks. I doubt he’d crash a county fair and do something stupid with this many people around.”

“We don’t know that for sure and until we do, I’m going to worry about your safety. It’s my responsibility now,” I said point-blank.

A small smile crept across her face and she winked. “Fine. I’ll gladly accept a buff, sexy cowboy like you as a bodyguard any day of the week.”

“Cass, I’m being serious. I would protect your body with my life, darlin’. You’re important to me and if anything, ever happened to you. I… I don’t know what I’d do…” A pinprick of pain went through my heart at the thought of losing my beautiful girl after finally getting her back.

“Beau… I’ll be fine. Look, I’m all in one piece and little Zeus here is ready to go play more games and ride some rides.”

“Ok, I’m sorry. I just worry…”

“And I appreciate that you worry about me, Beau. I do, but I want to enjoy tonight. Okay? Let’s go have some fun.” She winked at me and I knew she was trying to lighten the mood.

“Where to, Cass?” I reached down and twined her fingers between mine again like before and I loved it, the feel of her soft warm hands a sharp contrast to my own.

“I kinda want to ride some rides.” She said quietly.

“Rides, it is then.”

“Yeah?”

“Of course, anything for you, but hold on just one second. I need to fix something real quick.”

“Um… okay. And that would…”

I didn’t let her finish her sentence before my lips were on her. I devoured her mouth like a wanton man. It was the first kiss we’d had tonight and I couldn’t get enough. I wanted her closer. I wrapped my arms around her small frame and pulled her in close. Her clothed breasts pushed against my chest and I felt her nipples harden as we deepened the kiss. She threw herself into this kiss, shamelessly giving me everything I wanted without hesitation. My hands went on a journey of her—face, hair, arms, waist. I pulled her leg up against my thigh as she ground against me. So many emotions racked my brain and I wanted even more than what was currently happening, but then I realized that we were in public and this was indecent.

Her kiss got frantic and desperate and I had to stop this before clothes started to go missing. I pulled back slightly and she seemed to remember herself and where we were. Embarrassment flushes her face and it’s the prettiest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Our breathing was erratic and rushed.

Her eyes found mine, “Oh, I’m sorry. That kiss was just…”

I shook my head, which caused her to move.

“Perfect, sweetheart, but I’d like to keep that behind closed doors or at least somewhere not as out in the open.”

“Yeah… me too. So… tilt-a-whirl?” She asked, pulling away and reaching for my hand again.

“Actually, let’s try out the Ferris Wheel…”

Her face lit up, “The Ferris Wheel? Man, I haven’t been on one since high school.”

The corners of my lips tipped up as I smiled at her. “Yeah, it’s a lot more private and romantic than the tilt-a-whirl.”

A shy smile lit up her face. “Can we do more of what we just did?”

“Of course… and more if you want to, darlin’. I aim to please you anyway I can.” I winked at her and she smiled, then looked away like she was shy about asking for what she wanted me to do to her.

We made our way down the midway to the Ferris Wheel. It lit up the night sky in brilliant purple and white lights. The line for it was surprisingly short and I was happy that I
