Literally a second later he closed his door, started the engine and threw it into reverse. It all happened in one quick, effortless motion. I sat frozen in fear and shock.
I felt ignorant and embarrassed. I didn’t understand anything that was going on, except I was right where I was supposed to be, with Demien.
Demien shifted back into park and slowly released his foot off the brake. He went on babbling to himself. All I could understand was “I have time. Yes, I have time. Damn it, not this. Not again. I could have killed her, and this would be over.” Other than hearing that several times at different spots of his internal conversation, everything else was gibberish. I was sure he was speaking a different language, and I don’t mean pig Latin.
Finally, I pointed out, “You know I have no idea what’s going on. And you are acting mental right now. Are you going to explain to me in English what the hell is going on?”
“Exactly that,” Demien’s laugh was humorless and dry. “Hell,” he mumbled. He looked at me with a pained expression. “I am deciding on where to take you.”
“Where can you take me?” I was really getting scared now.
“Not sure,” he murmured, more to himself than to me.
“You could take me home,” I suggested. I folded my arms over my chest and rolled my eyes at him.
His face softened. “Let me think.”
I scowled at him.
“Of course you’re going to fight me. You always do.” He laughed, shaking his head. “Look, there are things far bigger than you and me at this moment. I know you don’t understand anything I’m talking about, and, due to various reasons, I can’t explain them.”
“Always cryptic.” I shook my head.
“We have time before...” He trailed off. “I’ll take you home for now until I have a better plan.” He looked in my direction, “But I’m not leaving you, I’ll always be close. I am counting on a few days before…”
“A few days before what? You should tell me,” I pressed. Even though I was upset and scared, a profound understanding stirred in my soul. I had been in this situation before. I had no idea why I felt that way.
“I can’t. I really want to.” His features softened as he huffed under his breath.
“You should anyway.”
He pulled me closer to him, as close as the console between us would allow. “I will take care of you.” He placed a finger under my chin and slowly guided my head upward. Leaning into the embrace of a kiss, he effortlessly pulled me over the middle console and onto him. I found myself straddling him. He raised his hand behind my head and pulled my lips to his. There was a deep hunger for his kiss. He took my lower lip into his wet, warm mouth. The sensation was electrifying. Sucking on my lower lip, his mouth sent explosions ripping through my frame. My blood boiled, and my hips moved on their own, rubbing against him. Moans escaped deep within me. I could feel his longing for me. My hands ventured down to his belt. Our bodies uncontrollably vibrated against each other as desire took over.
Bang!
I slipped open his belt and unbuttoned his jeans.
Tap, tap, bang!
Stopping to catch my breath, I looked up to see Myra. I instantly slid off Demien. Red filled my cheeks. Damn, I thought.
Demien’s head hit the headrest, and he rubbed his face from frustration.
Myra opened the door and said, “Didn’t you hear my car door slam shut, like, twice?”
I guess I heard some noises in the background, but I was a little preoccupied to notice too much. I slid out of the Hummer, not saying a word.
As soon as we were safely inside, Demien closed the door behind him. Myra went straight to my room to put down her belongings.
Demien stopped in the middle of the kitchen and lightly held my chin. “Look, I have some…” he paused, looking around. “Things to take care of. I won’t be far.” He grabbed my waist and pulled me in close to him. With his lips to my ear, he whispered, “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Between the heat of our desire and his body pressed against mine so tightly, our bodies threatened to melt into one another, akin to molten chocolate. I wanted to melt into him. I wanted to become one with him right then. I really didn’t care about the apparent impending danger. I just wanted him to give me his everything.
I closed my eyes. “Don’t go,” I breathed, but was too late. I felt him disappear as warmth was replaced with the sting of cold. I opened my eyes to an empty living room.
I hadn’t given any thought to my sister or Jake. “Shannon? Jake? Anyone home?” There was no answer.
Myra met me in the kitchen. “Is anyone home?”
“No. Demien disappeared.”
“Do you want hot chocolate?” She asked, grabbing cups from the cabinet.
“No, thanks. What are you doing here?”
“You texted me to come over,” she replied.
“I texted? I don’t remember texting you. In fact, I don’t remember getting here. I remember we were on a gravel road doing…” I looked at her as my cheeks flooded. “Then, you were banging on the door of the Hummer at my house.”
“I don’t know. He must have done a number on you.” She shrugged her shoulders. “I got a text from you. See?” She held her phone up to me.
“Want some tea?”
“Sure,” Myra said. “Where’s Shannon and Jake?”
“I don’t know. They weren’t here when I got home.” I didn’t notice if they had been here at that point
