Anya closes her eyes and rests her forehead on his chest. “Until we know who assaulted you…”
“Or what,” she interrupts him and looks up. Her eyes are already shifting back to normal. “Right. For now, it’s safer if we keep that part between us.” His dark brown eyes are worried as he pulls on his shoulder holster over his black t-shirt and jeans. A rush of desire washes over her.
“Thank you, Christian. Even if you think I’m crazy, you’re always there when I need you. Why did we break up again?” Her hands tug at his jeans, pulling his strong body into hers.
“Because I scared you, when I told you that I loved you. I love you, Anya with all of your drama, and all of your ways. You just have to trust me.”
“Three months of dating is not long enough to know if you love someone, Christian.”
“Three days, Anya,” he growls and seizes her mouth. Anya meets heat with heat. Sex with him always overwhelms her.
“Damn, you taste good.” His deep voice sends shivers over her body and he kisses her again a hot, wet, needy kiss that rushes through her body and when he leaves her mouth to chew on her neck, her teeth explode in her mouth. She jerks with shock and leaps away from him so fast he doesn’t even see her move!
Anya slams into the wall, knocking the breath from her body and slides to the floor. She stares at him as she struggles to catch her breath. Christian is stupefied! “Anya!” he yells and runs over to help her.
Christian carries her to the bed and runs into the bathroom to get a wet washcloth. When he comes back, she is sitting up, rubbing her head. “What happened?”
“You… happened. Anya what the hell was that?” He asks, sitting on the bed next to her.
“I don’t know,” she whispers pressing the cloth to her eyes, “But, Katie’s in trouble, and so am I. What am I going to do?”
“We will figure it out together.”
Chapter 6
Katie’s room is overlooking a lake that the ancient castle was built upon. She has a private suite with an attached bath. All that’s missing is Anya. The food is four star, and the tour today promises some amazing sights. Her group has ten people, and this morning they have come to see the Faerie Pools. The bus parks in the paved lot and Katie is disappointed to see a coffee stand and multiple large buses. This must be a tourist hot spot. She steps down out of the bus annoyed, pulling out her cell and sighs heavily when she realizes she doesn’t have cell service here.
“Now be warned, that Fairies are not to be trusted. They can shape shift and change size and they love to mess with humans…” the guide drones on and Katie has to fight not to roll her eyes.
“Only Dark Fae are evil,” Katie says without thinking from the back of the group. All eyes turn to her and she frowns, now where did that come from?
“Oh, we have an expert, do we? Have you met very many dark fairies, Miss…,” he asks glaring at her, angry that she interrupted his planned speech?
“Too many to count…” she murmurs, and her head begins to pound so loudly that it drowns out all sound. “I think my last boyfriend was one,” she jokes hoping to distract them. Laughter ripples through the group and they turn back to their guide. The pounding in her head increases and she has to take deep breaths to calm down.
“Right, moving along now, just ahead down this path you will see the Faerie Pools. Be warned, now, it’s a twenty five minute walk. Follow the path to the right and return to the Glen Brittle parking lot by 4:00. Enjoy!” He sings out. The group moves off and his narrowed eyes follow Katie.
Katie falls back and allows the crowd to move along without her. According to the travel books, the pools are located in what looks like a glacier carved valley, at the foot of the Black Cuillins Mountains. The path is well worn and leads directly to the Faerie Pools, but Katie is mesmerized by the landscape around her as she walks. Tiny waterfalls pour into bright turquoise pools and they cut across several little rivers. Good thing she wore her wellies. The whole area is surrounded by blooming pink heather, and tiny green ferns. The gorgeous gray sky overhead promises a steady rain to come. The rocky path leads to the right and she has to laugh at the large groups of people that have come to see it. This is not how she wanted to tour Scotland.
“Rather on the back of an Angel,” she murmurs and the pain in her head increases. Katie squeezes on her temples and stumbles off the path to a large boulder in the shade of a Rowan tree. Nauseous, she sips on her water bottle and wonders if she isn’t pushing herself too hard after the car accident? Absently, she runs her hand over the bark of the tree, and it occurs to her that multiple Rowan trees line the path. Granny always said that this particular tree was special because it could protect against the dark faeries.
Katie touches the tree and feels her heart grow calm, her mind clears, and she sighs. “I must be losing my mind.”
The doctor warned her that amnesia isn’t something that just heals over night, but
