“Why Ian?”
“Because Ian can do what he wants. He’s a mercenary. Roman will fit in with his group. You know I can’t bring him into HOT.”
“I know.” Because Johnny was a military officer and the military had different rules. They were funded by the government, which meant they didn’t bypass the rules they lived by in order to do what they wanted to do.
“He’s not a US citizen yet. That will take time.”
“I know that too.” Kat sighed. “I worry about him, that’s all.”
“I know, honey.” Johnny put his arm around her, and she snuggled into his side. “He’s made it this far. He’ll be fine. He’s a grown man, Kat. We can’t control him. Nor should we try.”
She hated when he was right. “Fine, we won’t try. But I’m his mother. I can fuss and worry.”
He chuckled. “I think he likes it when you fuss. He hasn’t had that for a long time.”
They lay without speaking for few moments. “It was a good day, wasn’t it?”
“A wonderful day.”
She ran her hand down his torso, felt the intake of his breath. “You know what would make it an even more wonderful day than it already is?” she whispered.
“I think I have an idea,” he said, pushing her back and taking control of the situation. She loved it when he took control. He was so fierce and commanding, and her body melted with anticipation.
He tugged her pajamas off, then bent to capture a nipple between his teeth while his fingers found their way to her slick heat. Kat moaned. “Johnny…”
He lifted his head. “I love you, Kat. I love our kids. I’m not the same man I was before you came back into my life.”
“You’re my man,” she whispered.
“Only yours. Always yours.”
“Show me.”
He grinned, then lowered his head and licked his way around her nipple while she gasped. “I intend to, baby. Thoroughly.”
“Stop talking and start acting.”
He laughed. And then he took her breath away.

I imagine you’ll see Roman again. He’s going to work for Ian, so you know he’ll appear. And maybe one of these days he’ll get his story. I know we didn’t find out everything about him in this book, but that’s because he has more to tell us, right?
