really good friends. Karen’s even joined the Bible study group on Wednesdays.”

“Things have been very different for her since Heath went to jail and Chad completed rehab. She looks happy every time I see her in town.” Luke kissed the back of Megan’s hand, and his mouth turned down. “Are you okay? You seem…a bit nervous.”

“I’m fine.”

She was trying for breezy, but the words came out strangled. How was it possible she could argue cases in front of some of the toughest judges in Texas, but when it came to Luke she couldn’t keep her head?

They reached the fence line. In front of them was a gorgeous sunset and Megan sighed. “I don’t think there’s anything prettier.”

Luke tugged her closer, his gaze on her and not the sky. “You got that right.”

Her lips turned up. “You’re a sweet-talker, Luke Tatum.”

“Only when it comes to you, Megs.”

She was tempted to kiss him, but her heart was already racing from nerves. Megan held up a finger. “Hold on.”

She raced to the nearby hay bale and searched for the present she’d hidden there earlier. The jelly bean wrapping paper stuck out, making it easy to find.

She gave to Luke with a broad grin. “Happy two-month anniversary.”

“Ah, babe.” He groaned. “I didn’t get you anything.”

“You came straight from work. Besides, I don’t need you to get me anything.” She bounced on the balls of her feet and clapped her hands. “Now, open it.”

He tore the wrapping paper, lifted the lid on the box, and laughed. Luke pulled out a bag of jelly beans. “Is this a present for me or for you?”

“That’s for both of us.”

She took it from him and ripped it open, popping a couple in her mouth. He snagged a red one from the bag, chuckling.

Megan pointed to the box. “There’s more.”

He glanced down and all mirth fled his expression. His mouth dropped open, and he looked at her, eyes wide. Luke blinked.

“Is this…is this…”

“It’s the first outfit.” Megan pressed her lips together and pulled the cloth out of the box. It was a white baby onesie etched with the words, Mommy and Daddy’s Little Jelly Bean. She placed it over her belly. “I’m pregnant.”

Luke let out a whoop that could be heard for miles. He picked her up and swung her around in his arms, making her giggle. Jelly beans spilled from the bag, dusting the grass with their bright colors.

He set her down and cupped her face. “You’ve made me a very happy man, Megs. I love you.”

Tears sparkled in his eyes, and she felt her own well up.

“I love you too.”
