to the stars that appeared in the sky one by one.

“What about you, kid? How’s life treating you? Have you been eating well?”

Regn snorted. “What’s that? You worried about me?”

Hakken shrugged and muttered. “Just taking care of my family, kid.”

Those simple words left him speechless. Regn worried the lump in his throat would betray his voice if he tried to make a funny retort, so he remained silent. He had dreamed about belonging to a family for so long, and Hakken, in his own oafish way, made him part of his. Regn made an honest effort to hide the goofy grin that came to his face. He was definitely not ready to be teased by Hakken about his mushy emotional state.

But he was so utterly happy!

And there was one who understood how elated he felt. His beautiful friend, the human girl who helped him escape darkness and solitude, the one who knew him better than anyone else.

He turned to watch them, Maeve holding Hakken’s hand over Laoise’s sleeping form. Placid smiles and twinkling eyes. A warm sense of serenity washed over him as he realized he was part of this.

His family.
