diagram took on a life of its own. For those of you who’d like to geek out on the bioweapon movement, a bigger version of this image is on my website.

Afterword

Antonio and Charly’s book has been a challenge on so many levels because I had to wrap up an overarching subplot that started in the first two books. I had done so much research into how scientists identify if a virus was man-made, how antivirals worked, and also how the first candidate vaccines for the Ebola virus evolved. But only maybe 2% made it into the book because I didn’t want to overwhelm readers given current events.

Another challenge was Antonio. His motivations were complex, and I didn’t want him to lose his edge. He will always protect the ones he love with a ruthlessness that is a part of his core. As for Charly, she was a joy to write and her character came to me naturally.

My thanks to my development editor, Geri. You guided me as I battled to balance the sensitive topics in this book while maintaining the urgency of the plot. You encouraged me to just write and promised to call me on my shit when any of the characters or plot lines show inconsistencies or they go off the rails.

Special thanks to my beta reader, Sue. You went above and beyond by thinking of every angle regarding the plot and characters. You voiced concerns about catching up the readers from the events of the previous book. Your insights and corrections always prove invaluable and helpful. Your curiosity about how the bioweapon changed hands from book to book led to our bioweapon diagram project.

A big thanks to my editor Kristan Roetker! I’m so sorry for leaving you hanging in the first round of edits when I sent you the manuscript without the epilogue that served as a little wrap-up story for this hard-fought HEA. We did have a laugh that my epilogue was nine percent of the book. With your understanding of my style, you polish my work without editing out my voice.

Thank you to Dana Curtlett-Dunphy of A Book Nerd Edits for providing final eyes to my manuscript.

To Debra and Drue of Buoni Amici Press, thank you for making my life easier as an indie author by taking charge of tasks that detract from my creativity.

I absolutely love the book community! Special mention to my Very Important Paige readers and bloggers/bookstagrammers who continue to read/review my work. Thank you for giving my books a chance and loving them.

And lastly, thanks to the hubby and Loki for helping me stick to my writing schedule. You’ve both been so patient when I disappear into my writing room or inside my head. Love you both so much!
