So when he pulled back, looking smug and proud of himself, Kinsley couldn’t let him get away with that. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it to the bed. She put her hands on his shoulders and pressed him down onto the floor. And without any concern for anyone who might be out in the parking lot, Kinsley straddled him and took his erection into her still throbbing body, riding him until they were breathless and sated.
Kinsley draped herself over his chest as they relearned how to breathe. She propped her chin on his chest, smiling dreamily as she said, “I could really learn to enjoy grocery shopping!”
He stared at her for a long moment, then burst out laughing.
Chapter 15
“So, do you have any new ideas?” Kinsley asked as they drove towards…she wasn’t sure where anymore. They’d just left Yellowstone Park and were heading south again. But they didn’t have a destination in mind.
“I have lots of ideas,” he said, leering.
She laughed, the desire singing through her veins like sparkling wine. “About your next project,” she clarified, pushing her sunglasses higher up onto her nose. She closed her laptop, done working for the day. Unfortunately, she’d finished everything he’d asked her to accomplish. Now she didn’t have anything to do.
“Yeah. I have some ideas,” he admitted. “Where do you want to go next?”
Kinsley shook her head. Chewing her lip thoughtfully, she stared out the window. “I don’t know.”
He reached out and took her hand. “What’s going on?” he asked her, rubbing his thumb across the back of her hand.
She shrugged, curling her fingers around his. “I don’t know,” she admitted. “It’s been pretty nice out here.”
“It sounds like there’s a ‘but’ in there somewhere.”
She grinned, warmed that he understood her so well. “I don’t know. I think I’m just…” She let the sentence trail away.
“Tired of eating out of plastic bowls and going without nail polish?” He offered.
She cringed and glanced at him through her lashes. “Yeah. A little bit.”
He chuckled. “Let’s head back to Seattle then.”
“No!” she protested, sitting up straighter. “We can keep going!”
Lincoln shook his head. “I’m about ready to head back too. I have a few ideas. I need to research them first and see what pans out. But once I start researching, I’ll want my tools at hand.” He nodded towards the GPS system. “Plug in Seattle. Let’s head home.”
She bit her lip, torn. But she really missed a full sized bathroom. And she wanted…needed a bed that didn’t move.
“Hey,” he said, getting her attention by squeezing her fingers. “We’ll do it again. This isn’t the end.”
She glanced at him, startled that he’d understood her so completely. “Promise?” she whispered, trying to keep the desperation out of her voice.
“I promise,” he replied back with another squeeze of his fingers.
Kinsley smiled, but for some reason, a sensation of dread pooled in her stomach as he turned off of the highway and got onto another, heading north-west.
Chapter 16
That sensation of dread grew as Lincoln pulled into the parking lot of her apartment complex three days later. She’d already been dreading spending a night without Lincoln. In fact, she turned to him, ready to beg him to stay with her, or even better, take her to his house and let her sleep in his arms tonight. And for every night after this. She didn’t want to leave him. In fact, Kinsley was just about to burst into tears when a flash of blue caught her eye.
“What the hell is your ex doing coming out of your apartment?” Lincoln growled.
She peered in the direction of her door. Sure enough, Carl was pulling the door of her apartment closed. “I don’t know!” she snapped, opening the door to the truck.
“Carl?” she called out as he reached the last step on the staircase. “What are you doing here?”
The shorter man paused, his eyes narrowing as he looked from Kinsley to Lincoln who was coming around from the driver’s side of his big pickup truck.
He stepped off of the last step and hurried towards Kinsley. “Did you do it?” he demanded, his eyes once again flicking over to the taller man, his hands fisted at his sides.
Kinsley blinked. “Did I do what? And why were you in my apartment? How did you even get in?”
“I haven’t heard from you in weeks! I told your landlord that I was worried about you and she let me in.”
“That’s…!” She stiffened, furious. “You had no right to invade my privacy, Carl!”
He shook his head, his hand slicing through the air. “Just tell me! Did you do it?”
“Do what?” she demanded impatiently.
“Did you have sex with him like we talked about?”
“Excuse me?”
“Did you have sex with him?” he repeated, trying, and failing, to loom over her.
Kinsley wasn’t having it. “You have no right to ask me about my personal life, Carl. We broke up! Remember?”
He ran a hand through his hair. “No! I remember that I gave you permission to have sex with the guy! We didn’t break up! I told you to get him out of your system. I gave you permission to…just do it! You know that we have a future together, Kinsley! And I’m not going to let you throw away that relationship simply because you have some sort of weird fascination with your boss!”
Kinsley’s palm itched with the desire to slap Carl. But she didn’t have a chance to say anything because the roar of the powerful truck distracted her. Spinning around, she realized that Lincoln was back in his truck. And with just one more glare in her direction, he pulled out of the parking lot, towing his silver trailer…and her heart as well!
“You did it, didn’t you?” Carl demanded.
Kinsley heard the pain in his voice and turned. “Carl,
