Chapter 2
The New Kid
Date: September 8th, 2020
As the subsequent day of classes started, Aiden groaned more as Advanced Calculus got repetitive for him, with the class still scarcely answering the teacher except himself who was answering majority of the questions. The class was beginning to pick up its pace, heading towards the next topic of differential equations, which was a new topic that the high school students were never exposed to before. The class suddenly got interrupted as Mr. Smith stood up and lectured aloud.
“Class, I would like to introduce you a new transfer student of ours. He is a child prodigy and is 12 years old, about to turn 13, he wants to understand our learning environment and potentially become a mathematical tutor for the school board,” Mr. Smith spoke professionally in a sudden tone.
Aiden shifted his focus back within the classroom environment, due to his curiosity of the new transfer student. He kept wondering what a child prodigy could be doing in such a boring secondary school in Allentown, Pennsylvania, United States? It sure was a shocker, that a 12-year-old would already know or how to process 12th grade high school Advanced Calculus class.
A short boy about 5 ft 3 inches entered the room. He had pale white skin and, was wearing zero glasses (not meant for prescription), but mainly for looks and appearance. He was of Welsh or British descent, scrawny and was formally dressed in a manner to look more professional despite his young age, with messy light brown bangs. He walked to the front of the classroom and stood next to Mr. Smith, facing the class. Aiden and the class looked with deep curiosity as Mr. Smith was beginning his speech about this child prodigy.
“This is Spencer Madoc, or his last name could be known as Maddox,” Mr. Smith spoke. “He will be attending mainly this class along with other advanced subjects. He is here mainly to try to take our IBM program, which is higher than the academic mathematic tier that you fellows are in. So yeah, guys and gals, try to give a warm welcome to our new fellow student, Maddox.” The entire class clapped and applauded. Maddox took a seat and the teacher continued his lesson on Advanced Calculus.
A couple of classes later, Maddox headed in the hallway towards the guidance counselor’s office to discuss possible tutoring that he could enroll in. Maddox with his built-up posture at such a young age, walked through the school hallways, carrying Advanced Mathematics & Transformation Series textbook of his own. The book contained mathematical knowledge beyond the scope of the Advanced Calculus class that he just had that morning, including Laplace, Fourier transforms alongside with matrices and other mathematical deviants or theorems. As Maddox was walking to approach his locker, suddenly…
BASH!
Maddox was forcefully pushed towards a locker which impacted his back. He was pushed by a taller and bulkier high schooler who was in the 12th grade. The big guy who bashed Maddox onto a locker was Brian Vanrod. One of the school’s biggest bullies or jocks ever to be seen in Allentown itself.
“So, you are the new smart geek,” Brian Vanrod spoke immaturely. “Child prodigy, eh?”
Maddox spoke with his Welsh with a hint of British accent formally and astutely towards him, “You really are stupid and sound like an immature imbecile who thinks he reigns the school. Every time someone hears words coming out of your mouth, you sound cretinous within our learning environment which impacts our brain cells, you dullard.”
The crowd of students surrounding Maddox and Vanrod suddenly roared towards Vanrod for Maddox giving him a neat intelligent burn towards him. The class started to laugh at Vanrod for trying to bully a child prodigy. Maddox tries to walk away from the situation and proceed to the main office of the school. But before he could, suddenly a huge fist from Vanrod was coming towards Maddox’s face. Maddox ducked as Vanrod hurt his fist severely on a school locker and growled in anguish.
Vanrod felt a shoulder tap from behind him, as he turned around, he realized that it was Aiden Alves. Aiden spoke, “Hey Vanrod, you are forgetting something from me.”
“What?” Vanrod angrily spoke as his hand was still in pain and became red.
Aiden punched Vanrod’s face which made him fall to the floor of the school hallway and the crowd of students witnessed it. So did Maddox. He thanked Aiden for being there for him, he walked towards the main school office while Aiden told everyone to bug off and stop gazing at him. “What are you looking at, you bystanders?” Aiden spoke discourteously and headed off towards the cafeteria. Aiden was severely ireful that the world today was always full of bystanders, whenever a scene of crime, or person was about to get hurt happened. Suddenly everyone just stands there and does not do their job to defend Maddox, instead they just watch in pleasure as sheep, Aiden thought.
