“After practice.” Dante smiled.
I smiled back. “Cool.”
[This is Dante.] Popped up on my screen at around 8 PM.
[Hi.] I stopped myself from typing this is JeShaun.
[My sister said you’re really smart and a nice captain.]
[That’s nice of her. She’s a good player.]
[Yeah. She wants to play for USA in the Olympics one day.]
[Wow. Ambitious. I just wanted a college scholarship.]
[You’re ambitious too.]
[I guess. Can I ask you a question?]
[Yeah.]
[Why’d you ask me to the dance?]
[I saw you the first time I picked my sister up from practice. Then I noticed you around school. You’re cool, laidback. You just seemed comfortable being yourself.]
[Thanks.]
[Why’d you say yes?]
[You’re smart and I like your accent.]
[Yeah? LOL]
[Yeah… plus you’re kinda cute.]
[Dang, just kinda?]
[Ok. You’re cute.]
[Well, you were pretty after volleyball practice, so.]
[Yeah?]
[For sure.]
Wow, all the time I spent trying to be cute during the day and the finest guy in the class sees me after practice. Time to write down some questions for Uncle Corey. I’d never imagine that’s when I’d catch someone’s eyes.
Expectation: Girls primping and prepping to be seen while looking cute on purpose.
Reality: Boys be like… she is cute after volleyball practice. Let me see if she wants to go to the dance.
