Another red streak passed by and Atlas turned to watch the fire arrow, except it wasn’t a purely magical arrow, this one was a standard arrow with a glowing red tip. It punched into the left shoulder of the lamia and the skin hissed and sizzled at the impact. A glance to his side showed a grinning Gemma. She already had another arrow on the string. Her muscles bulged as she drew back for another shot and released. The lamia flicked her tail up and deflected the arrow at the same time Ragnarok rose and slashed at her with his sword. The blade bounced off the scales on her lower half and caused no obvious damage.
Atlas activated Nature’s Fury. During his spell-casting, Quelin launched another fire arrow while Ragnarok braced himself against another attack. His ball of green energy flew from his wand and hit the creature in the chest. She howled in fury as the power seeped into her.
You dealt 6 HP damage to Lamia.
“How dare you come into my lair and attack me! I’ll rip all of you apart!”
The spaces between her scales seemed to glow an eerie green color, and her eyes lit up a furious red. She dashed after Ragnarok again, only this time she was much faster than before. Her tail slammed into the shield and he skidded across the ground as the attack pushed him and his shield backward. Ignoring the warrior, she charged for Quelin.
The vulpine’s eyes narrowed as he quickly built power between his hands. This spell didn’t look the same as his fire arrow, and the heat emanating from it was noticeable where Atlas stood. The lamia dashed in and swung with her claws. Atlas watched with glee as Quelin ducked under the attack while still building his fire. The man jumped forward and pushed the fire directly into the snake woman’s stomach.
For a moment, silence hung in the air, and nothing happened. That moment shattered when a resounding boom echoed from the two fighters and the lamia flew backward to crunch into the stone wall. A dark black scorch mark adorned her stomach and thick green blood leaked from cracks around the wound.
“I think that almost did it,” Quelin breathed out as he tried to catch his breath, “One more round of attacks should finish her. Everyone attack together.”
No one voiced any objections, so Atlas put his wand away and gripped his staff in both hands. They all ran for the monster and he activated his Triple Threat attack. The staff swung around in an arc and crunched into the scales on her hip. The second swing caught her in the ribs while his final overhanded attack cracked solidly into her skull. Two arrows punched into her neck in rapid succession and a sword blade slid cleanly in to her side. The lamia shivered and then collapsed to the ground.
You dealt 12 HP damage with Triple Threat.
Lamia died.
Everyone stood back and checked over each other.
“Everyone alright?” Atlas asked.
They all nodded in agreement.
“Damn Ragnarok, that’s straight up disrespectful. Quit staring at those things!” Gemma told him with disgust in her tone.
The warrior quickly looked away from the body and blushed a deep red.
“You have a three-hit combo?” Quelin asked Atlas.
“Yeah, learned it before I logged out last time.”
“That must be nice. I figured you were more of a caster.”
“I prefer the close up fighting and do more of that while I’m questing and grinding. I save my mana for healing spells. I was trying to stay back to avoid taking too much damage in case someone needed healing.”
The group stood near the dead monster and Gemma stepped forward. She reached out and touched it, and her eyes shot wide. A box appeared in front of Atlas and he read it over.
Item - Slither Ring
Requirements: Level 6
Rarity: Uncommon
Quality: Fine
Durability: 45/45
Weight: 0.1 lbs.
Slot: Finger
Traits: A ring of a green-colored metal, embossed with a snake scale pattern. Grants the following bonus:
• Increases the wearer’s agility by 1.
Roll for item: Need/Greed
The ring was the first uncommon item he’d seen. At this low of level, increasing a stat by 1 point could be a big deal. Despite that, he didn’t want to roll Need for it. The ring would be beneficial to Gemma, and even Quelin could put it to better use than he could with his dodging ability. It would work to increase his damage and speed, but he was here as a healer and not for his damage. Atlas selected Greed.
Everyone made their selection, and the notification showed up.
Gemmalin won the Need roll for Slither Ring!
The ranger cheered and deftly slipped the ring on a finger. Atlas also noticed another notification.
You gained 200 experience for killing a target in The Wild Hunt.
Atlas checked the experience from the logs as they worked their way here.
You gained 25 total experience.
“On to Hellrazer?” Gemma asked.
“Looks like it.” Ragnarok replied.
At that moment, Atlas heard a distinct ping type of sound. It took him a minute to notice the small icon that looked like a chat symbol in the lower right corner of his vision. Mentally, he selected the icon, and a window popped open that said Party Chat on top.
Party Chat
Quelin: Lamia is down. We are moving to Hellrazer now. How are you guys doing on Anaconda?
Nothing showed up for a few moments before a message echoed his earlier sentiment.
Party Chat
JamminGirl: What do you mean ‘how are we doin?’ It’s a big ass damn snake. They should exterminate these things from every world. It’s almost dead, though.
Atlas chuckled a little at the message. Apparently JamminGirl hated snakes too. She was the assassin for the other team.
He walked over to the corpse and found another item on it.
You have found Lamia Scales x 20.
Interesting. I
