for an FBI tail.

The BMW turned left at the end of the block.

“I’m going to go up one more block.” Sid’s voice came through her earbud.

“I’ve got her.” Kevyn navigated the turn in time to see the BMW switch lanes a block up.

She followed for another half dozen blocks, naming the streets as she passed through them so Sid could keep tabs on where they were.

They continued heading south. With each block, the surrounding area shifted further from commercial to industrial.

What was she doing in an industrial district?

Well, she wasn’t likely here for pleasure.

Divers made a right turn into a parking lot.

“She pulled into a parking lot. It’s directly across from a coffee shop.” Kevyn gave him the coffee shop’s name and forced herself to keep driving straight. “I’m passing the lot now.”

“Roger that. I’ll head that way.”

Parallel parking lined the street in front of the coffee shop. Most spaces were filled, but there were two open.

Kevyn pulled into an alley, then backed up on the street to circle back to one of the open spots. As she shifted into park, she saw Sid enter the lot where the BMW had parked.

Where was Divers?

It was a large lot, the length of a city block at least. It was also over half full, even though it was pushing six p.m.

There!

A blonde head wove between the cars.

“Sid, do you see her?”

“Still parking.”

“Better hurry or she’s going to be gone.” Even as she spoke, Kevyn grabbed a baseball cap from the back seat and reached for the door handle.

She’d have to be careful or Divers would see – and probably recognize – her. At least the sunglasses she wore would help. Cliché? Sure, but they did hide some of her more recognizable features.

Stuffing the hat in the back pocket of her jeans, she jogged across the street.

Her feet hit the sidewalk as Divers reached the far end of the parking lot.

Now to hide her hair. She wove her hair into a messy braid as she crossed the lot, tied the ends into a loose knot, then jammed the cap down on her head.

That braid wouldn’t hold without a tie, but hopefully it would hold long enough.

Divers disappeared between two buildings.

Darting around cars, Kevyn jogged after her. The braid bounced against her back but seemed to be holding.

A car door slammed somewhere behind her. Hopefully it was Sid. She wasn’t supposed to be going lone wolf, but she also wasn’t about to let their target get away.

At the corner of the building, she paused before peeking around the edge.

Divers had cleared the far corner of the building and was crossing an open space. Looked like a road of some sort.

“Hey.”

She started as Sid’s voice came from behind her.

At least he’d caught up to her.

“Come on.” She led the way down the side of the building, hoping Divers wouldn’t look behind her.

There weren’t a lot of people out here. The two of them would likely look suspicious, especially to someone who was already on edge.

They reached the end of the building. A paved road, unlined but the equivalent of three lanes wide, stretched in front of them, separating the row of buildings beside them from another row of buildings in front of them.

Unless she missed her guess, docks were on the other side of the next row of buildings.

Several parked tractor-trailers obstructed her view in both directions. Divers rapidly approached one tractor trailer, then disappeared from sight.

Well, at least those trucks would keep her from seeing them, too.

They hurried after her, reaching the end of the trailer in time to see her approach a building facing the Sound.

From where she stood, Kevyn couldn’t see any kind of sign or business name on the building, but maybe it was in small print on the door.

She jerked back as Divers looked around.

“I’m going to go to the other end of the truck.” Sid’s whispered words registered a second before she heard him scurry away.

Kevyn knelt to look under the truck so she could see Divers’ feet.

Still in front of the door.

She risked a glance around the tires.

Divers stood in front of the door, repeatedly pushing a button mounted beside it while glancing from side to side.

As much as she wanted to keep watching, it was too risky.

Kevyn pulled back and looked under the truck again.

A few seconds passed before she saw the door swing open and Divers step inside.

The door closed with a loud clang.

Rising, she waited for Sid to rejoin her. “Did you see anyone?”

He shook his head. “Just Divers. I’m going to walk past to see if I can figure out what business is in there.”

A moment later, he rounded the other side of the trailer. “Nothing on the door other than a number. I’ll text it to Dak so he can run it.”

She looked around as Sid tapped off a text. They were awfully exposed out here.

Waiting in Sid’s car would be less conspicuous, but what if Divers didn’t return to her car? Or what if she exited the building with someone else, someone who didn’t go to the parking lot?

Some crates by the building caught her attention. “We can watch from there.”

Tio looked up at the knock on his door.

Lorelei Divers.

When she’d called earlier, she’d sounded frazzled. Insisted that she had to see him. In person. Tonight.

While she looked as pulled together as ever, lines marred her forehead and her eyebrows dipped lower over her eyes.

He nodded at Zane, who turned and disappeared down the hall.

“What’s going on?”

Lorelei crossed his office and dropped into the plush chair opposite his desk with a dramatic sigh. “I’m fixin’ to
