wasn’t careful.

Jealousy was an especially ugly beast that could pop up at any time, despite the fact that Lexi at least seemed fine with the idea of me doing stuff with Winter. But if I began making her a priority when this was something that both Lexi and Heidi had been wanting for almost a year? Yeah, that might turn out bad. Because that’s how they would view it, even if Winter had sincerely been waiting on me all her life.

I cleared my throat again. “You’re fine if I wait, right?”

“Of course,” she replied, her expression still warm. “But up until this point, I’ve made it pretty clear that you need to keep your eyes and hands to yourself, and you’ve respected that. But now I need to make it clear that there is absolutely nothing off limits to you. If you want to do something to me, do it. You have my permission. Or if you want me to do something to you, all you have to do is think it. I’m yours, and you’re mine.”

Well, damn.

I felt like I was dreaming or something. The intensity of what she was saying was difficult to swallow, especially after how she’d acted toward me since I’d pretty much met her.

She smirked. “I know it’s abrupt. Probably would have had you freaking out more if I’d told you sooner. So we’ll just leave it at that.” She gave me a wink. “Dinner is almost ready, so why don’t we head downstairs and eat? Pretend like everything is how it was, until you’re ready.”

Now I scoffed, causing her to grin wider, because she was literally turning my own words and thoughts around on me – suggesting she’d take the same approach that I used with Heidi and Lexi, except in reverse. When she giggled, and then angled away slightly like she was going to start heading downstairs, I spoke up again.

“Thanks, by the way. For everything.”

She smiled warmly. “Of course. Anything for my alpha.” And with that, she turned around and went down to the kitchen.

I waited for just a moment to collect my thoughts, before following after her, acting like nothing unusual had occurred while everyone, except Freya and Rose, contributed to helping set the table. By the time everyone was sitting down, eating and socializing, I took a moment to glance at everyone, watching them laugh and banter with each other, before smiling myself.

It was obvious Winter was probably using her ability, considering they all seemed to be in a decent mood despite everything that had just happened. But that just made me happy, knowing the recent events didn’t have to ruin our lives in this moment.

There was still a lot to worry about, lots of things left unresolved, but watching everyone begin eating caused me to realize something important.

I had a loving family who I could sincerely trust.

And I could honestly say for once in my life, that I was sincerely happy, with no hidden traumas weighing me down. Eden was alive, the rest of my family was safe, and I had reason to believe that we’d all be together for a very long time, if not forever.

So yeah, I was really happy.

The happiest I’d been all my life.

Omega Squad (Omega Metahumans)

Set 700 years before Immortal Supers, prior to an apocalypse that wiped out 80% of the world’s population, several of the characters mentioned (including Liz Knight) are from Omega Squad.

Jacob Knight wakes up to a bloodbath at the mall, with him at the epicenter. He is quickly arrested and forced to fight on a secret squad of metahumans who are given a choice between forced military service or prison. The problem is, he has no idea what his ability is, and no one will give him a straight answer. But one thing is clear: he needs to figure it out, and fast, since the success of his first mission hinges on him.

Rise of the Night Stalkers:

a GameLit Post-Apocalyptic Adventure

Waking up to discover the apocalypse had begun, and to find that I was no longer human, was not how I thought my day would go. But then again, I supposed I was thankful to just have another day to begin with, considering I’d apparently been a mindless monster for the last several months.

The city was a mess, with many buildings destroyed by massive black towers that rose into the sky like enormous thorns. And yet, despite all this, I was about to discover that the monsters and bizarre landscape weren’t the strangest things about the apocalypse.

At least, not if the visual hallucination that displayed game-like stats counted.
