catch me a husband at the reception in this one.”

The room erupted with laughter.

Harlem spoke as it died down. “I would have been fine going to the Justice of the Peace. Carter insisted that I have my dream wedding. I’ve come to realize with the right man, you don’t need all of that other stuff.”

“Amen.” Her mother said as she looked at Harlem, who was radiant–not from a beautiful dress but from a love that burned from the inside out.

There was a knock on the door. Elijah poked his head inside. “Are you ready, baby girl?” He didn’t know how he would make it through this day without turning into a blubbering bucket of tears.

Confidently, Harlem nodded. “I am ready, daddy.”

Epilogue

Harlem was surrounded by everyone she loved, but in Carter’s estimation, too damn many people. He stepped into the middle of the small group. “Excuse me. I need a moment of my wife’s time.”

Harlem loved the sound of that. She was now Mrs. Carter Owens.

Carter grabbed her hand and led Harlem out of the reception room into a quiet area of the house. He kissed her. “Are you happy?”

Harlem gazed up into his eyes. “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. You?”

He wrapped his arms around her waist. “I married my best friend and the woman of my dreams. I’m very happy.”

“I almost lost it when you said that in our vows.”

Carter held her close. “What part? When I said, Love has given us wings, and our journey begins today. Wherever the wind may carry me, I will stay by your side as your husband?”

Harlem smiled lovingly. “Not that part, but it also touched my soul.”

He caressed the side of her face. “You must mean when I said, I promise to love you, to respect and support you, to be patient, to work together to achieve our goals, to accept you unconditionally, and to share my life with you forever. This is what I promise you, my best friend and the woman of my dreams?”

Harlem got choked up all over again. “Yeah. I think that might have been it.”

“I meant every word. I only have one problem.”

“What?” She frowned with concern.

“We haven’t had sex in six months. I’m dying.”

“You’re dying?” She burst out in laughter. “It’s probably the longest you’ve ever waited.”

It was, but she didn’t need to know that. “The wedding coordinator said that we’ve done everything that couples are supposed to do. Can we tell everyone to go home now?”

“Carter, we can’t really kick all these people out of the house. They’re our friends and family.”

“I don’t give a damn about any of them. Right now, I just want to make love to my wife.”

“Do you now?” Harlem mulled over his words and seemed to come up with an idea. She wiggled herself out of his embrace and stepped back. Harlem had changed out of her wedding gown into an icy blue, A-line, halter reception gown. It was much easier to take off. She lifted it from the hem and pulled it up until it was just below her sex.

Carter's blues eyes darkened.

Harlem’s eyes never left his as she smiled sexily. She looped her thumbs into the string of her thong and pulled. They fell down her legs and landed at her feet. Slowly, she stepped out of them. “I think if you want to make love to your wife, you should make that happen.”
