heartbeat if it means getting me and Rian away from the Irish mafia once and for all. He’s the only real family I’ve ever had. I’ve protected him his entire life, and one way or another I will get him free of the claws of Cormac.

As soon as we arrive at the Knights’ clubhouse, Wirth backs into a spot in the well-lit parking lot that’s lined up with bikes, twice as many as usual. I quickly climb off his bike and yank off his helmet, offering it to him as he remains seated.

“Thanks for the ride, I guess.”

“You guess?” He turns his face toward me after removing his goggles, then slides his fingers through his black hair to smooth it down the side part. And for the first time I get a good look at his face in the light. He’s…beautiful. With full, kissable lips, dark blue eyes, and just a thin black beard outlining his strong jawline, he takes my breath away.

In another life, I wouldn’t mind letting him play the role of the white knight coming to my rescue.

But in real life, I know such fantasies are absurd. The only person I can count on is myself. I need to be thinking about my plan for tonight. In an hour, Rian said I need to be as far away from this clubhouse as possible. No one will get hurt; he promised me. Cormac is just planning to send a message – a destructive one to warn the Knights away, send them back to Fayetteville where they came from. Rian and Cormac just thought it would be best if I’m not around in case the Knights try to shoot back when they find bullet holes in their treasured bikes.

“I, ah, I need to get inside,” I say when I realize I’ve been standing here for too long staring at Wirth and wanting things I can’t have. I gave up on finding love and romance a long time ago.

“Yeah, see ya,” he replies before I turn and reluctantly walk away from him.

Chapter Three

Wirth

“Look what the cat finally dragged in,” Malcolm, the president of the Dirty Aces MC, says over the sound of a hard rock song playing from the speakers when I finally stroll into the dimly lit Knights’ bar after Maeve came inside, leaving me wanting more of her. No surprise, Malcolm’s girl Naomi is on his lap, Silas is making out in the corner with Cora, Devlin is cozying up with Jetta at the bar, and Nash and Lucy are nowhere to be seen. I suppose they are probably still home fucking, or maybe even in the bar bathroom getting it on.

“I’m here. Now how long do we have to stay?” I grumble when I pull out the empty chair at the square table. It doesn’t look like Naomi will need her own seat anytime soon.

“How have you been, Wirth?” his girl asks sweetly.

“Good. How about you?”

“Same old,” she replies with a big smile. “Malcolm dragged me out of the house tonight and away from Honey. It’s a blessing to be away, but I also have a nagging ache to get back to her.”

“Time away from the little one will do you good,” I reply. “So, what did I miss?” I ask Malcolm.

“The Knights of Wrath are no more,” he says proudly, meaning they’ve already commenced with the patch over that will bring more money and more power to the Dirty Aces. I glance around the room and see several guys donning their brand-new leather cuts with the Ace of Spades skull patches and the same logo hanging from a banner behind the bar. Without a thought, my eyes are also searching for Maeve in the crowded room, although I’m not sure if I want to see some asshole’s hand on her ass or tongue down her throat. She’s an odd one. Beautiful but…stubborn and independent, which only makes her even sexier. In the parking lot, I finally got to see just how tight her black dress was over her curves, a pair of leather knee high boots making her legs look a mile long and hinting at the inch or so of bare skin peeking out from under her short ass hem.

It’s fucked up that my first thought when she mentioned the gang bang by the Knights was that I bet she could take my big dick just fine. Not that I would ever be part of whatever it is that has them sharing women. That’s a fistfight waiting to happen, and she ain’t worth the trouble. Probably.

“You all right, man? You look a little high-strung tonight,” Malcolm remarks.

Leaning closer to him and Naomi, I say, “Did you know these guys pass the club girls around like a joint? They all hit some of their girls the same night!”

“So?” Malcolm grunts. “You scandalized? Offended, even?”

“So, that’s pretty fucked up, isn’t it?” I ask, looking to Naomi to back me up on this.

“Not much different than taking turns with the same girl on different nights, is it?” Malcolm replies, referring to the women back home that used to go through the Aces like a revolving door.

“Guess not.”

“Hmm,” Naomi mutters while she glances around. “These younger guys are pretty hot. Much better looking than the old ass Knights.”

“Watch it there, honey,” Malcolm says when he grips her jaw to turn her face back to him so he can kiss her lips forcefully. “You’ve got all the cock you can handle right fucking here.”

A second later and he’s pulling Naomi around so that she’s straddling his lap.

“Oh, Jesus Christ,” I grumble as I get to my feet to escape the couple. “I need a drink, and you two need a room!”

At the bar, I wedge my hip into the overcrowded row and wave my hand to get the bartender’s attention, in desperate need of some alcohol.

He nods in my direction and holds up a finger while filling up someone’s glass of beer. I pull out cash from my
