But it showed us that we needed to get our family and friends out of Fort Lewis. Fort Lewis is getting too big, anyway. With the Gorongiath threat gone, we finally have more resources to police our outposts, but unfortunately, not many survivors are willing to do what needs to be done. Nobody is as ruthless as Colin and me.
Not yet anyway. We'll see about that. Let a few people die, and others will scream for stricter law enforcement. But that is not our problem any longer.
Not far from the caves, we found a well-hidden valley. That's where we took our family and friends and anybody willing to leave Fort Lewis.
Maggie and Blake built a quaint little cabin there, raising our kids. Colin and I visit every opportunity we get. Which, unfortunately, is not as often as we wish.
Blake is responsible for the settlement's security and the small militia force stationed there for protection.
Martin is still our liaison with the armed forces behind McFarland's back. He manages to journey back and forth and talks mainly to Admiral Farnsworth or other heads of McFarland's army.
When Martin is not out, ensuring our alliance with the US forces, he resides at his own small cabin and helps Maggie take care of his four grandkids.
Doctor Paton also settled in the valley with his family, attending to any medical needs. While at the caves, we have Doctor Pheng. She and Colonel Pheng decided to move into the caves. The Colonel brought with him a great number of soldiers who defected from McFarland's army. Most had not only heard of Colin and me but, on several occasions, fought with us; they know we are not traitors.
As for Colin and me? We're commanding an ever-growing number of militia; our last count was over five-thousand strong. And that's just fighting bodies. Their family members are all settled in the valley. We've worked out a rotating schedule, so that everybody gets to visit their family at least once a month for a few days. Thankfully, the valley is only a day's ride away.
Yes, ride. We have started to take in horses; it makes traveling through the countryside a lot easier.
And we are not done fighting.
Just like the President and his men, just like the Russian President's and Dimitrov's army, we set out daily to fight and diminish the number of maniacs, dinosaurs, and the cursed flower. Constant patrols in the skies and higher above ensure no threat from the Gorongiaths, or the Phinaruhs will surprise us. So far, so good.
Soon we'll have to find another place to settle some of our ever-growing population. We're outgrowing the valley and the caves at an alarming rate. Later today we'll have a meeting about potential spots. Briggs and Ace, along with Carl's help, have been working hard on that. I'm curious to see what they've come up with. Even though meetings still bore me to death, this one just might keep me awake, at least for a little while.
Tomorrow, Colin and I will head out, leading a small army, to fight an approaching herd of maniacs, our scouts spotted this. Life is always interesting; there will be no shortage of fights to come. But Colin and I are ready for it; I think we were both born for it.
