“Obviously we weren’t alone. Leo and I have been running here for the last year and we’ve never come across any other shifter’s.” Rocky told me.
“Raven, you smell different.” Leo sniffed in my direction.
I pulled my shirt to my nose and inhaled, he was right, caramel and spice. I looked at the forest behind us and saw a pair of glowing eyes staring from the darkness. I blinked and they were gone.
Chapter 5 – Sights
This was yet again another night I spent turning and tossing in my dorm room. Leo had explained that the forest is usually pretty quiet on a Saturday night. Athens has so many other diversions to offer, that even the other wolves are usually too distracted to be out running.
I rolled out of bed and made my way to the tiny kitchenette to start breakfast. The hot plate was now warmed up and I dropped a few slices of bacon in it, when it was done, I scrambled two eggs and sliced a pear.
The sun was peeking through my curtains and I sat on my bed eating my breakfast. Today was a good day to venture out to the new Acropolis museum and take in some sights. After I washed my dishes, I took a shower and got ready for the day. I slipped on a long maxi dress that Aunt Megan had picked up from Shari’s Designs for me. It was dark blue with brown and cream flora designs and really made my eyes stand out.
I put on my brown sandals, then slipped my purse around my head and shoulder. I went down in the elevator and when I stepped out on the first floor, Karla was standing there watering the plants.
“Oh, look at you! Are you off on a date with a lovely Greek Boy?” She smiled.
“Good morning.” I smiled. “I’m going to the Acropolis museum today.”
“Lots of wonderful Greek history to see there. If you want some company, I have a very nice nephew.” She suggested.
“Thank you Karla, but I’m okay.” I laughed and waved.
I walked towards the corner store and stepped inside to buy a bottle of water and ask if there was a metro schedule or bus route. The young lady suggested I take a bus which would be stopping in front of the store in five minutes. I paid for my water, thanked her and stepped outside just as the bus pulled up.
Forty-five minutes later, I was walking towards the museum which was situated just below the Acropolis. The sun was shining, the breeze was fresh, and the streets of Athens were buzzing. In the distance I could hear church bells ringing.
I stepped up to the museum ticket office and a young man greeted me good morning in Greek. “Kalimera.”
“Good morning.” I smiled back. “One ticket please.”
“That will be five euros.” He said and handed me a booklet, map and entrance ticket as I passed him the money.
“Thank you.” I said,
“Efharisto!” He called out you’re welcome as I waved.
What a cutie, something about him reminded me of Zach. Oh Zach, I needed to stop thinking about Zach. His mating ceremony was coming up and he was off limits. “Come on Raven, you’re in the land of Gods for crying out loud, you can get over him.” I told myself.
“Maybe we’ll find our mate in the land of Gods.” Rae gushed.
I entered the beautiful museum; I walked through the lobby and passed the turn styles. I stood on the glass floor gallery looking down at archaeological excavation finds, then I made my way through the museum taking in the ancient Athenian culture and studying the statues. The marble and glass usage in the museum’s design give it a light and airy feeling.
The Parthenon Gallery at the top level was stunning with a perfect view of the actual Parthenon that stood about three hundred yards away. I stood for a while taking it in, it was almost twenty-five hundred years old. Before I left the museum I stopped at the base to look down at an archaeological excavation that uncovered an ancient Athenian city in the open pit below.
I looked up and scanned the crowd, I had a feeling someone was watching me, but nothing stood out. After seeing those glowing eyes yesterday, I was left feeling uneasy. I tucked the brochure in my purse, checked the time and decided to venture into the neighboring areas.
The Plaka district was nearby and I started walking towards it. Plaka was also called the neighborhood of the Gods because of its close proximity to the Acropolis. It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, built on top of ancient Athens. The narrow streets are cobble stoned and the neoclassical architecture gives it a small island village vibe.
The cafes, eateries and boutiques lined the narrow streets. The tables outside made it impossible to actually drive a car through. I made my way to a small restaurant and was seated outside. It was midafternoon and I was starving. I ordered a dolmades appetizer, the Greek chicken and salad dish.
I ate my lunch and watched the mixture of tourists and locals walk by. I had even scented several wolves and was amazed at how easily they blended right in. I was looking at a flyer on the table about the Cina Paris, an outdoor rooftop movie theater. I had heard about its breathtaking views of the Acropolis under the night sky while watching a movie. I would have to visit once my Greek was better, I’m sure the movies are in Greek.
“Are you planning on visiting the cinema tonight?” I
