“Dana,” she hollered once again, “Get down here right now or I’m going to throw your girlfriend out of this house.”
“Mom ….”
“Stop calling me mom.”
“I need to talk to you about something, and it’s going to be quite unbelievable.”
“Have you done something with my son?’
Shaking my head, I said, “No, he is …. Not himself right now though. But this is something that you will want to know.”
“Okay, go on.”
“Mind if I have that cup of coffee and sit down?”
She shrugged her shoulders and said, “Okay, but I’m not taking any shit, and if this gets too weird, I’m calling the cops.”
Grabbing my mug of coffee, I sat down at the table with her and I said, “You’re going to find this difficult to believe but I’m Dana.”
“I don’t find that hard to grasp at all, there are lots of girls named Dana.”
“No, what I’m saying is that I’m your Dana.”
“You are?”
“Yes.”
“You are telling me that you are my son Dana?”
“I am.”
“My son Dana is a male.”
Nodding I said, “Yes, he used to be.”
“And now he’s a girl.”
I nodded.
“So, my son, who used to be a man, is now a woman?”
“Yes.”
“And that’s you?”
“Yes, it is mom.”
She laughed and said, “Okay, I’ll play along, for now, as I’m sure he’s right around the corner probably recording this entire thing so he can post it on the internet. You young people today are strange. Oh, by the way, would you mind if I asked you a few questions to validate that you are truly my son?”
“Please do.”
So over the next five to ten minutes I was subjected to a grilling worse than a District Attorney would give a criminal, but I could not blame my mom as I wouldn’t have believed her either if she’d walked into the kitchen as a man.
Finally, she said, “It’s really uncanny and there’s no way that you could know all the answers to the questions I’ve been asking. Let me see your ears.”
“What?”
“Let me see them.”
Complying with her requested she examined my ears and then said, “I can’t see any hidden listening devices. Hmmm, I thought maybe someone was feeding you the answers.”
“So, are you convinced it’s me?” I asked.
“Who were your two best friends growing up?”
“Lewis and Steve,” I replied.
“When you were in seventh grade, who did I catch you making out with in your closet?”
“Mom, it was in the eighth grade, and it was Steve’s sister Marian and it was in the back yard in the storage shed.”
With a look of amazement, she asked, “Oh my God, Dana! Is that really you?”
“It is mom, that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you!” I exclaimed.
“Oh baby,” she said and then hugged me, “I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you.”
“It’s okay, this is crazy. I wouldn’t have believed me either. After all, when someone comes up to you and says hey, I used to be your son and now I’m your daughter, what are you going to do?”
Mom took a deep breath and said, “Okay, we’re going to approach this rationally and calmly. That’s the best thing to do.”
“I’m in complete agreement.”
“We just need to figure out how you were turned into a girl and how to get you switched back.”
“I do have a question.”
“Of course, sweetie.”
“Can I see myself in the mirror?”
“There’s a mirror in the living room, come on.”
After walking into the living room, I stood in front of a French cheval mirror and saw all of myself for the first time. I was about 5’4, long medium brown hair, dark brown eyes, with medium breasts plus a petite little frame. I was wearing a t-shirt I’d put on before going to bed which just covered my rear end, and not to mention that my boxers had come off while I was sleeping. Either that or they’d fallen off while I’d walked to the kitchen.
“So, this is the new me?” I asked.
“Honey, it sure looks that way, but look on the bright side, you are quite pretty.”
“Mom, are you trying to make me feel better? If so, it’s not working.”
“Sorry baby, but you really are pretty.”
Giving her a look that could kill, I then turned back toward the mirror, and as I caught sight of my scowl and started laughing I realized that the only thing I could do was laugh at the situation, as it was truly funny when you got right down to it.
“Mom, you are right, I am an attractive girl.”
“Told you so,” she said as she came up to my side and put her arm around me.
As we stood there looking into the mirror she said, “I’ll help you get through this, I promise.”
I then looked at her and said, “Hey, we were always a great mother-son team, we will be an even better mother-daughter team.”
“Yes, we will. By the way, do you have any idea how this happened?”
Taking the necklaces pendant in my hand I showed it to her and said, “I think I have an idea.”
Chapter 5
Mom and I went back to the kitchen and I sat at the table while she made me breakfast. I’d explained to her where I’d found the necklace and how I’d decided to wear it overnight, hoping it would improve my luck with the opposite sex, which apparently did not go so well.
“So, mom, do you think we should think about taking me to see a doctor?”
Laughing she asked, “Are you kidding? Do you think they would even believe us?”
Thinking for
