smiling, letting me inside.

“Hey,” she says, looking happy to see me, happier than anyone has ever looked when I show up. Usually, it’s the opposite, a worried frown like people are wondering what shit I’ll fuck up.

“Hey.”

We stand there just staring at each other until there’s a whine from the living room.

“Is he okay?” I ask before I start walking in that direction. Ace is curled up in his bed, so I squat down and rub his head.

“He’s fine,” Joanna says from behind me. “Now I’m starting to wonder if you’re here to see me or the dog.”

That makes me chuckle as I straighten and turn to her. “I can’t fuck Ace, can I?”

Once the words leave my mouth, I realize how idiotic they are. It also makes it sound like the only reason I’m here is to fuck Joanna, which isn’t true.

I wait for her to get angry and throw me out. But instead, she laughs and says, “Well, I guess you could, but I’m pretty sure it’s illegal and incredibly disturbing to even think about.”

“I’m sorry. That was stupid,” I tell her.

“I knew it was a joke. That’s why I laughed,” she says when she winds her arms around my waist and presses her cheek to my chest in a hug. I hold her to me as she adds, “Maybe I’m a little jealous that you came to see Ace before you gave me a hug or a kiss.”

“Let me fix that right now,” I tell her. Reaching for her chin, I tilt her head back and bend down to kiss her lips. She’s so short and I’m so tall that it’s not a very comfortable position for my back. I let go of her face that seems happy enough to keep kissing me to run both of my hands down her back and to her ass and heft her up my body while holding her upper thighs.

“Phillip!” Joanna exclaims. “Put me down! You’ll hurt your side.”

I didn’t even feel the pain until she mentioned it, and then there’s the dull ache that comes and goes while I work during the day. “I can handle it long enough to get you to the bed,” I tell her.

“Your side is still healing!” she reminds me.

“Yeah, it is. So maybe tonight you can do all of the work?” I suggest.

“Deal,” she agrees.

We get each other undressed in record time, and then I let Joanna make all the decisions. Having her take me in her mouth until I’m wet enough for her to ride is better than anything I could’ve thought up. Seeing her moving above me like a goddess makes me feel like I’m the luckiest man in the world.

Still, for a moment, I can’t help but wonder what I’ll eventually do to fuck it all up.

Joanna

I lie draped limply over Phillip after one of the most energetic rounds of sex I’ve ever had. Then I remember his injured side and slide off of him gently.

“Jesus, woman,” he mutters, his eyes still closed. “Last night and this morning we may have made love, but tonight you thoroughly fucked my brains out.”

“Is that a compliment?” I ask with a giggle.

“Hell yes. I think I’m temporarily blind.”

His hand slaps down on the side of my face and then lower where he squeezes my breast, making me squirm. “I’ll have to feel my way around from now on I guess.”

I laugh and scoot up the bed to kiss his lips and run my fingers through his hair as his palms roam up and down my back. “I wasn’t sure if you were coming over tonight or not,” I admit as we lie together.

“I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to come over again tonight,” he says, stroking my hair like it’s a new compulsion, the same as mine.

“I’m glad you came.”

“Me too,” he says with a deep masculine chuckle from the double entendre.

“You know what I meant,” I say with a playful slap to his chest.

“Yes, I know what you meant,” he agrees.

“I don’t even have your phone number.”

“I don’t use my phone much. It’s more for just emergencies.”

“Oh,” I mutter, not sure if he means that or just doesn’t want me to be able to call him.

“I’d rather see you in person than talk on the phone,” he adds, which makes me feel better. I’m not sure why I’ve been feeling so insecure with Phillip. Maybe it’s that I don’t think he’s the type of man to settle down with just one woman. He’s handsome and sexy. The fact that he’s a bad boy biker only adds to his appeal.

But I need to be careful, or I’ll start falling for him too fast and end up getting hurt. That’s why I tell him, “My friend, Casey, wants me to go to Wilmington with her tomorrow.”

“Yeah? What’s in Wilmington?” he asks, and it feels like he’s wrapping a strand of my hair around his finger.

“A biker bar.”

“There’s one of those here too,” he reminds me.

“Yes, but Hunt invited Casey to come see him at their bar.”

“You’re going to the Knights of Wrath’s bar?”

“Is that what they are?” I ask, and then he’s raising up on his elbow to see me better.

“They were Knights until the night I got shot. They patched over and became another Dirty Aces MC.”

“That’s where you were shot?” I ask since I didn’t know that or don’t remember if Nash or anyone else mentioned it.

“Yeah, so I don’t really like the idea of you and your friend going down there.”

“I thought the MC worked out everything with the group who did the shooting?”

“They did,” Phillip says as he sits all the way up, which means I have to do the same. I keep the sheet pressed to my chest while he doesn’t seem to notice or care that he’s exposed all the way down to his bare thighs. “But that doesn’t mean it’s still safe. Those men are new members, and they nearly got us killed by
