Just about to bleed
“He walks, Odis…”
Booms a voice from behind
A man outranking
This bumbling little fool
His captain, looking oh so unkind
“Were you even thinking?
Did you seriously think this wouldplay?”
“Sir, I-” doughnut facebegins
With only a finger, gesturing out
The captain takes the win…
“You’re free to go.”He addresses me
And I don’t dare to argue
Walking out the front door
Looks more appealing than iron bars do
For minutes we walk in silence
I know better than to speak…
Onward, three blocks,
With not but a peep
“What’s going on?” Iask
Reluctantly, breaking the rules
“I thought I was on my own?”
She gives me a look
Something’s got her spooked…
Finally, in shelter blocks far away
She takes a single breath,
Something’s truly not righttoday…
“You’ve been judged…”she says,
Her face is unflinching
Crap, that’s not good…
In fact, it’s the worst…
“The O.D.s are close & evernearing…”
Well, that bubble just burst…
Let's pause for a moment
I believe context is in order
O.D.s are basically the magic FBI,
Organization Detectives,
And you don't wanna catch their eye
“But, I’m innocent.
So what do I do?”
A question,
To which I don’t expect ananswer…
Surprisingly, she gives one out of theblue
It churns my stomach like cancer…
“You’re not guilty of thecrime
Even though you’ve been accused.
Even if we asked them to listen,
They’d definitely refuse.
I need you to tell me: what is it thatyou saw?”
And so, I relay my tale
A clearer depiction couldn’t bedrawn
“Guess your past finally caughtup to us.”
“Wait, what does that mean?”I say
She looks away, guarding her face
The secrets must be deep…
“You know something?
You knew all along…?
Yet you chose to keep them?
That was not your call!
You didn’t have the right to makeit!
And now, I’ve been judged
With no chance of being aquitted…”
“It’s not that simple!”she snaps
“You need to understand,
There’s far more at play here
Than we could’ve ever planned.”
“Yet, you kept it a secret.
And now, we’re screwed.
Tell me.
You owe me that…”
Suddenly, there’s a presence,
Ever so shrewd
Whipping around, it’s there
An implosion of sulfur and of ash,
Flames, so very bright
Coming through the window with a crash
By the second revealing, not a what,
But a who
Stepping from within the blaze
A single sentence
“Found you.”
Trial5: Embers, ash, and the past
Her eyes as emeralds
Shinning with anger
Behind golden rimmed glasses
Hair the color of flame
Cut short to a vengeful song
“This time you’re mine!”She claims
“Crap, an O.D.” I mutter
As Jack has already started to move
“Flame clan?” I ask Jack
With a step, cunning and loose
“Did you really think you’descape?!”
The O.D. thus exclaims…
“It did cross my mind.” Istate
Poker’s so not my game…
There’s no way out this time
Wait, am I being ignored?
Of course, she’s after Jack…
To me, she might as well be bored
Her focus not even close to on me
“Does that mean I can go free?”
Jack gives a look
She always did say
“If you can bail, every man forhimself
It’s more fun that way…”
Her words, not mine…
But now’s not really the time
As this redheaded fireball
Is about to cut loose…
I’m looking for an exit,
But it’s simply no use
The fire, it’s as if it’salive,
As if each scolding ember
Is but one of the hive
Every time I find an opening
It jumps to that spot
I suppose for now at least
We’re really, truly caught
Jack on the other hand
Has kept her icy cool
With one phrase, she strikes the nerve
“The Organization...
They really are a collective of fools.”
“I couldn’t agree more…”
The O.D.’s glare staves
With that one simple response…
Her motivation is a grave
Don’t ask me how, but I just know
There’s history here
It’s festered and grown
A loved one lost to the clutches ofdeath
Simply still I stand on baited breath
This isn't just business, it's personalfor her
And she doesn't care one bit who sheburns...
“Shame, for one so young to haveto taste defeat.”
Jack’s icy words…
They cut the pursuer deep
From zero to one hundred
Degrees is of what I speak
The flames collect around the O.D.
Flaring to their peak
“Today you answer for the crimeyou committed…”
I guess I’m not the only one
With no chance of being acquitted
This girl…
She’s truly out for blood
Makes me have to wonder
What did you do, Jack?
For her to bear such a grudge?
“You’ll have to be morespecific.”
Jack retorts
“I’ve committed hundreds ofcrimes.
Many of which, mind you,
Would be called legends of their time.”
“February third…2007…”
The O.D. snaps
“I’m sure you remember,
It was twelve minutes past eleven…”
At that moment I see Jack’s face
That look…
Paler than even snow,
Eyes wide, the width of a book…
There’s something that I don'tknow...
“I want you to admit to me
That you were the one that killed him…
Perhaps then, I’ll burn youquick.” The O.D. states
“Consider it a mercy for yourchildren.”
No matter how cold Jack usually is
It’s as if she’s frozenstiff…
Jaw tight, body tense,
Even trembling lips
What the hell is this?
What in the world did she do?
Damn it, there’s no time to thinkabout this
The red head’s bloodlust isshowing
It’s abundantly clear to view…
If I don’t get us out of here,
I can kiss my answers goodbye
Not to mention the only mother
I’ve ever had at my side
“SAY IT!” the O.D. screams
The heat ever rising
Around the room I look
A single exit, analyzing
The O.D., she’s distracted
This is not gonna be fun…
As we’re about to be abruptlysubtracted
About to make the run
So, the incantation, I thus begin
This is gonna suck
Better hope we have some luck
I’m committing a veritable sin
“Frigid Wind! Heed my call!
Not of spring or of fall
The priestess of winter summons you,
Take us far from all!”
With shattering force
We’re put on a course
For a place not known or bound
If we don’t die, I swear
I’m giving Jack a piece of mymind, profound…
Trial6: The run
No passport and no baggage claim
You’d think it’s not sobad…
That’s where I’d correctyou
Landing like a doll made of rags
It’s quick, but not at allpainless,
Then there’s the pit of yourstomach…
I made it work by dumb luck
This travel method is for the sane-less
“How the hell do you do that onthe regular?”
I ask, aching of pains
Rubbing my head,
I’m pretty sure that everythingon me
Is very much sprained
As I turn to look around
Jack open palms my face
“What the hell were youthinking?!”
Her words utterly lacking grace
“You don’t have a contract…
This makes it ten times harder.”
Never once has she struck me
Beyond the realm of training
You’d think I’ve justmarred her
“It was an emergency,
Considering
