Vito's tone pleasant for once
I reply “Don't take me for adunce.
What did he tell you?”
Vito gives a light chuckle
I clench my fist, whitening my knuckles
“Nothing much. Just that you lethis father die
Because you and Jack couldn't see eyeto eye.”
Instantly, my emotions flare high
“And that led you to me.”He continues
“Also the O.D.s are in pursuit.
You really want to know yourparentage?”
I feel my eyes go wide
“What's it worth to you?”He presses on
“Oh yeah, I know at least some ofthe tale.
The Seers were revered throughouthistory.
Then they were erased.
Quite the mystery.
So, again I ask, what's it worth toyou?
What are you willing to give to findout the truth?”
Behind his beady eyes
I see the wheels turning
“You're talking quite a lot.”I say, deep down yearning
Deep down wanting to start learning
About my family, my clan
But this isn't it...
Vito's plotting – Something'splanned
“More than usual.” I finish
“Well, aren't you the man?
Figured me out already, huh?”
Vito applauds standing up
“Guess that's a Seer for you.
Nothing gets past those eyes.
By now our other guest should bearriving for you guys.”
“You called the O.D.s?”Panic ensuing once again
“Well, of course.” He grins
“Family trumps you my friend.”
On instinct, I run after Leo
As my mind goes foggy
It's getting hard to see though
“Jack never told you about thecologne I wear.
It dulls the senses. Makes betting alittle less fair,
For the other person at least...
It took awhile, but it's finally takingeffect.
Even with those eyes,
You'll be paralyzed within the nextminute I'd bet.”
Suddenly, the O.D.s appear
Again, the guy - Familiar he shows
His voice clear
“Don Vito.
I hear you have something to trade.”
“Oh yeah. You're gonna likethis.” Vito claims
“Bring the brat!”
Suddenly, I hear Leo struggling againstsome goblin flunkies
Why didn't I see this?
I'm such a dummy
“When your senses go, so doesyour judgment.” Vito's tone echoes
“As for the thing that I covet...
A deal's a deal – RightDetective?”
That phrase puts it all intoperspective
What he covets is freedom and pardon
As the O.D. starts spewing some legaljargon
“I suppose so.” The O.D.states
“Don Vito Goblione, in exchangefor the Seer and the Toll
All previous crimes committed by youand your family
Are hereby pardoned and old.
By the authority of The OrganizationYou are clear, effective immediately.
Enjoy your vacation.”
“Thank you, Detective.”Vito's tone full of glee
“Sorry Nathan. It's nothingpersonal.
Today it's you, tomorrow the world.
You'll soon be joined by that frozenwitch of a girl.”
“Men, grab them.” The O.D.calls
“So, you're the one who killedPaul?”
The flutter in his tone as he says thename
Like he's playing some deep rooted game
“An upstart criminal killing aveteran O.D.
That's just laughable to me.
On top of that he was your uncle.
Under that Seer's gaze
You should've buckled,
Kinda like you are now.
You certainly fail to do your clanproud.”
In the moment I swear I see his eyes
A sheen of mana hiding behind
A Seer's sadness locked in a cage
I sense it...
Firm, stern, and full of rage
As the realization hits me
My eyes go wide
“Shhhh.” He grins
I couldn't speak if I tried
It's true killing my uncle is alaughable fact
This man... Who is he really?
It makes me wanna crack
He's not at all who he claims to be...
As he turns his back
“Let's be on our way.” Tohis men he calls
“And Vito... be sure to cleanyour walls.”
My heart pounding heavy in my chest
Adrenaline coursing ever stressed...
So many questions coursing over andover...
And the one who could answer them, couldn't be closer
Yet still I can't move
Get up... Get up... Get up...
This situation is severely tough
But now's not the time
As rage ensues...
To save Leo, this is an opportunityI'll have to lose
The O.D.s begin reaching for us
My power letting loose
As long as I can see
There's always something I can do
A shockwave of mana
Pulses from my eyes
With a concussive blast
They're knocked to their backs
On the floor they lie
Great... that's it?
That's all I've got?
As I let off another shock
Laying on the floor like a bum
Suddenly, the wind howls with a hum
What? How?
I didn't make the call
As a whirling force comes crashingthrough the wall
It carries Leo and myself towards theeast
As the O.D.s are shot westward
To the cage of a beast
I see them crash into Vito's Zoo
Into a den of chimeras
The beasts licking their lips
At the sight of food
My body still limp and unable to move
As I'm slammed to the ground
I'm oddly proud
It worked out...
Doesn't really matter how
Yet still I can't shake the thought
We've just been put in a tighter spot
The wind came without the call
Then there's the matter of UnclePaul...
None of this makes sense
None of it – None at all
Trial13: The house of Seers
The trees howl and creak
As the air hums
The lessening effects of Vito'scologne-like drug
“Where the hell are we?” Mytone shakes
As my muscles begin to tighten andquake
A vacant street of houses old
War torn, and tattered
They call to me bold
There's just something about this place
Something familiar – Somethingwhole
Something known by me alone
A memory? A smell?
A clue to tell...
I turn and look to Leo
White as a sheet
Like he's struggling to stay on hisfeet
“What is it?” I ask
As he begins dripping sweat
“This place,” He quivers
“Is cursed. What's left...
It's not even a home.
Do you not hear the howl of thetortured tones?”
Looking at the boy, something's notright
Speaking of...
Why's it still night?
“What are you saying?” Iask
“Leo, are you ok?”
As the tear leaves his cheek
The look about him as he barely speaks
“This unholy place cannot besaved.
It is solely a resting place forgraves...”
Suddenly, he lets out a piercing scream
Then drops unconscious to his knees
As I take a step to grab him quick
I see a shadow in the window
It makes me feel sick
Grabbing his shoulders, try as I might
It's no good, I can't wake him
He's gone silent from fright
“What the hell is this place?”I mumble low
As the walls of the house begin togroan
The feeling returns, stronger this time
Familiar and inviting
Am I going insane?
Instantly, my body begins moving on itsown
Towards the door and into the home
Fighting & fighting
No good to come
The closer I get, the stronger it hums
I hear it now, the tortured tones
Of those long dead – A home ofbones
Unable to fight it
My foot is placed
Over the threshold
I'm consumed by hate
Instantly, my vision is drawn to thepast
To a slaughterhouse – To abloodbath
I'm not just a witness
I'm committing the deed
I'm the perpetrator causing them
