I caressed the curve of her ass, enjoying the feel of her luscious body. I couldn’t get enough of her.
“Definitely your gorgeous, well-rounded mind.” I patted her butt cheek. Then a thought struck me and I stilled my hand. “Hey, have you finished your book yet? When do I get to read it?”
“Actually, I finished it and sent it to some agents.” She’d tensed a little, as though thinking about it made her nervous.
“You did? I’m proud of you. They’re going to love it.”
She dropped her face to my chest, tickling my chest hair with her breath. “Maybe,” she mumbled.
“They will.” I put both arms around her, wanting to hold her protectively against me. Or better yet, I should call up the agents she’d sent it to and see if I could charm them into moving it to the top of their reading piles.
She settled herself more comfortably in my arms, resting her cheek against my chest so her head was under my chin. “I’m going to be fine, even if they reject it. Most manuscripts get turned down, so I’ve prepared myself. And at least I can finally start working on something new.”
“You’re going to start another book? Another serial killer?”
“No more murders!” She sounded like she was smiling. “What do you think about starring in a romance novel?”
“What?” I moved my head to the side, tilting my chin down so I could see her face.
She gave me a hopeful look. “If you’ll let me, I’d like to write about you and your brothers. And Iola and Carlotta, if they don’t mind.”
“Really? Well, you can write about me, as long as you make me talented, smart, and irresistible to women. The Kade in your book should have a magnetic personality and a staggering intellect.” I paused to consider it. “And a monster cock that hangs to my knees.”
She snorted a laugh. “In other words, you want me to describe you accurately, and not exaggerate at all?”
I grinned. “Exactly. And you should mention that I’m skilled in providing orgasms.”
“You are?” She lifted her eyebrows. “Then maybe instead of just talking about it, you should provide a demonstration?”
“You mean another demonstration?” I put a little growl into my voice, flipping her onto her back so I could move over her.
“Have I already had one? I’ve forgotten.” She suddenly sounded breathless. Probably because I’d taken her nipple between my teeth. “Wait. Yes. Mmm, now I’m starting to remember.”
I teased her nipple with the tip of my tongue, then kissed down her body, turned on by the soft, feminine curve of her stomach. I loved the splay of her hips and the way she shivered with pleasure when I nipped the inside of her thigh.
Running my tongue over her center made her gasp and grab the rumpled sheets in both fists, squeezing them tight. Her breaths came in pants, and her moans drove me wild. I loved taking her to the brink of orgasm, and watching her face as I pushed her over the edge.
I’d never been with a woman so exciting, so beautiful, so funny, and smart, and fun to be with. Not all in one package.
Nat was perfect—no, not perfect, because nobody was perfect. But she was perfect for me.
My trust for her ran so deep, it soothed me deep inside. I never thought I’d be able to trust anyone outside of my family, but in the end it’d been so easy, it made me wonder if Nat and I had always been destined to be together. When it came to woo-woo destiny stuff, I’d always been a skeptic, but the way we fit, it was the only explanation that made sense.
The important thing was, she was mine.
Forever.
And my caveman side was showing again, because suddenly, I needed to be inside her again. To claim her. To never let her go.
Bringing myself back up her body, I gathered her to me, parting her legs with mine. She kissed my jaw and neck, digging her fingers into my shoulders. Her legs came up, and she drew me into her, pressing her calves down on my thighs to bring our bodies closer.
“I love you,” she murmured against my neck.
“Forever,” I managed to whisper back. Then I groaned, the sensation becoming too intense to be able to form any more words.
Afterward, we were lying tangled in each other, my leg over hers, her arm thrown across my chest, when her phone rang.
Loudly.
It was on the nightstand, right beside the bed. Hard to ignore.
She let out a reluctant groan. “I’d better get that. I’m expecting the HR person from my new job to call about my contract.”
Sitting up, she swung her legs over the side of the bed and picked up the call.
“Hello, this is Natalie Williamson.” Her business-like tone was sexy, and I almost reached out to stroke her naked back. Good thing I didn’t, because a moment later she said, “I’m sorry?” in a surprised voice. Then, “Oh yes. Of course. Sorry, I wasn’t expecting you to call.”
She stood up fast, listening intently, and shot me a quick wide-eyed look. I frowned a question, a little worried about what the unexpected call could be about, but she’d already turned away, intent on what the caller was saying.
“Yes,” she said after a moment. “That’s wonderful news.” She paused again, listening. “I’m so happy to hear from you. I’ll check my email and get back to you right away.” Though her words suggested she was getting good news, her expression was shocked and serious.
“Really? You honestly think so? Well, thank you. I’m glad you liked it.” She gave a forced-sounding laugh. “Actually, I can’t believe it. Somebody better pinch me.” She sucked in a long, deep breath, like somebody about to submerge themselves underwater. “Um. I’m not sure. Is that bad? Don’t change your mind, will you?” Pause.
