Gill is really out of it. “Dev, we should both fuck Greg at the same time.” She slurs, staring at me with bloodshot eyes.
“Sorry. I am stingy with my men, bitch.”
She staggers to her feet and falls back down on the couch. “Damn, I am too fucked up to walk to the door. I’m gonna have to crash here because you know how I feel about dunking and driving.”
“My couch is your couch. Just don’t vomit on it like last time.”
“I didn’t couch on the vomit last time.”
I must admit I’m barely functioning as well, I am border lining on a blackout. I stagger over to the couch and drag the quilt off the back of the sofa.
“Goodnight, Little Princess. Rest up, you have school tomorrow.” We bust out laughing so hard she’s trying to catch her breath. I fall on my knees, laughing, trying to catch my breath.
I finish up her glass of bourbon, and fall down on my back, gazing up at the ceiling, chuckling. When you’re drunk, the dumbest shit is funny as hell. I clumsily grab my flask off the table and finish off the scotch in it. I can no longer fight it anymore. Collapsing to the floor, the oily blackness washes over me like a dark sea.
Chapter 16
I wake up bathing in the lingering aroma of weed, cigarettes, and booze sweating through my skin.
Shit, my head feels like it’s had a car back over it.
I turn around and see Isis glaring at me with her pissed off yellow eyes. She lets out a low growl. “Oh, shut up. You hog my bed all the time.” I sit up, staring down at the floor, my head pounds like a war drum when I start moving. “Okay, here we go.” I manage to stand up without falling back down on my ass.
Half the battle is won.
Lumbering to the kitchen, I put on a pot of coffee. I needed that last night with all the shit I been putting up with.
My cat comes prancing in the kitchen, staring at me, screaming. “Okay, shit!” Your voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I shouldn’t have gotten drunk and slept in your bed,” I say, dumping her food in her bowl.
Gill enters the kitchen, fully dressed and drying her hair. “Aww, there she is. I was wondering where she was last night.”
“Yeah, sometimes she becomes anti-social and hides. You know, typical cat.” She picks her up and scratches her behind her ears.
“Watch about scratching behind her ears, she’ll expect that every time you come over.”
“My Pit Bull Lilly is the same way with rubbing her belly. What’s your four-legged sister’s name again?”
“Her name is Isis. After the Egyptian goddess.”
She snickers. “She definitely carries herself like a goddess; that’s for sure.” She puts her down and strolls up to me. “I have to go to work. God, its Halloween, my bar is going to be a madhouse, and I have a fucking hangover to go with all of this, but on the bright side; a Goth bar on Halloween brings in mad cash flow.” She places her hand on my shoulder. “Devi, I am serious, don’t let this case eat you up inside. It was outta your control. You of all people should know politicians fuck over the Justice system like it’s a sport.”
Easy for her to say when she doesn’t have to lie to all the people of America. But she’s right, I need to let this go.
“And take a shower, you reek of booze, weed, and BO.”
“But it’s my new perfume, called Hobo for women.” I stare blankly at her, trying to hold a straight face.
She shoves me. “You’re such a jackass.” She picks up her car keys. “But seriously, if you’re not working tonight come by the club, drinks are on me.”
“I’ll think about it, Gill.”
“Devi, don’t lay around here and sulk, please.”
“Well, now that you laid free drinks on the table, you have enticed me.”
“Shit its 12-noon peace out. I’m running late, Jessica is going to kill me.” She rushes out of my door. Time to take that shower.

Stepping out of the shower, I slip on a maroon T-shirt and blue jeans. Returning to the kitchen, I grab some more coffee and light up one of my cigs. Flipping the TV to Bay News 9, they’re saying it’s going to be cold again this week. Good I hate humid nights they’re the worst, it’s like you step outside and its instant sweat running down the crack of your ass. A breaking news bulletin shows up on the news, Jason and Jack are on TV escorting handcuffed suspects in fancy suits into the transport van.
Way to go, Jason. You got your first official big bust, not this fake shit I got.
I’m happy to see him get his big bust. Maybe people will focus more on him now rather than me. My cat hops up into my lap, nearly knocking my coffee out of my hand. “Whoa, Isis.” I scratch her under the chin. “I guess you’re not still pissed about me passing out in your bed.”
“Meow.” She purrs loudly as my finger massages the back of her ear.

After making amends with Isis and finishing my coffee, I place my mug in the sink and feel the urge to go for a few laps around the pool. Slipping on a two-piece black bikini, I head down to the pool.
I place my cell on the table and stroll to the edge of the pool and dive in. A gasp escapes my mouth as the cold water hits my body like needles. As much rent as I
