handler. Also, you could try to locate the scientists who created the drug, but you’d have to travel to London for that.”

“I’ll contact MI5 and see if they arrested the scientists in this program.”

I cross my arms. “Who was the sniper that killed Colonel Jane Barret? Is he one of yours?”

“No. We didn’t bring a sniper on our team. So he must be an MI6 or CIA agent or with another PMC firm.”

Damn, I need to hope those blood results produce an identity.

She holsters her gun. “Logan Price, I’m charging you with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder on a Federal Agent and a Law Enforcement Officer. Were you made aware of your rights?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll let the US District Attorney decide what to do with you.” She steps out of the room, and I follow her. “Only lead now is David Drake and he’s going into DT’s. So he won’t be of any use for 24 hours, assuming he survives the detox.”

“What about the Red Rain scientists?”

Munroe scoffs. “I am waiting on MI5 to get back with me, but I am not holding my breath. MI6 and the CIA have killed everyone involved with Red Rain.”

“I guess all we got is that sniper I winged. I’m still waiting for the blood results to come back.”

“While you’re doing that, I’m going to fill in my supervisor on how the case is going.”

“Look, the blood likely won’t come back till tomorrow. So we should get some rest and reboot.”

She yawns and stretches her arms. “You know, I could use a long sleep. I haven’t slept much since this case started.”

“Sounds like a plan. Meet back up with you tomorrow.” I turn and head to the exit.

I should probably take some food for Izzy and my sister.

I step into the large breakroom at the precinct carrying a bag of Chinese food. Izzy rushes up to me and hugs me and snatches the food from me. No, thank you, or nothing just takes the food and sits at the table. “Hey, you’re welcome, by the way.”

“Oh, sorry, Tia. I was just so hungry. But for realz, I’m glad you’re okay. Devi, I was worried those people were gonna kill you.”

I stroll over to her kissing her on the cheek. “Come on, girl. You know your Tia is a badass.”

A short, dark-haired woman wearing a nurse’s scrubs stands and shoots a scowl at me. “Well, Devi, I see your job is starting to affect the family.”

I force a smile. “Seriously? You’re doing this now?”

She sighs. “I’m sorry. I know you did this to protect us. How are you? You look like you been to war and back.”

A spot-on observation.

“Yeah, World War three in Ybor city. I’m sure you saw the news.”

She raises an eyebrow. “Yeah, and the Mayor is using it for his own political agenda of how we need to ban assault rifles.”

“Predictable anti-gun asshole.”

“How much longer do we have to do this?” she groans.

“I don’t know. Probably not until this case is closed.”

“Yeah, and how long is that? I have a career, too, you know.”

“I don’t know, Tavia.” I snap. “Look, these people weren’t afraid to try and kill an FBI agent and me twice. They also didn’t think twice about blowing away an Army colonel in broad daylight.”

“Shit, Devi. Does all this have to do with that Moonlight Killer thing?”

Mixing the white rice with my beef curry, I nod. “Yes, because it would be too much to ask for this case to be a simple psycho killing people. But let’s eat I haven’t eaten all day except vegan food.”

Tavia grins. “My heart bleeds for you, sister.” And the sarcastic bitch emerges, though it's not her fault sarcasm runs through the Lobos family.

My niece busts into cackling as she slurps some of her lo mein noodles. “You eating vegan food? I wish I could’ve been there and took a selfie and slapped it on Twitter and YouTube, and the post would be titled, ‘My tia goes vegan.”

My eyes narrow. “Did someone flip your smartass button tonight?”

She smirks. “I broke the switch a long time ago, so I am forever a smartass.”

“Just my luck.” I shuffle the curry around with the plastic fork, mixing the veggies with the beef. “So, Izzy. You decided what you want to do after you graduate?”

She takes a sip of her bottled water. “I want to go into the police academy and become a police officer and maybe a detective like you.”

My sister glares at me. “Nice, Devi. Your destructive lifestyle has brainwashed my daughter to follow in your footsteps.”

“I didn’t brainwash her to do anything. The kid sees a career, and she is willing to go for it. You should support that.”

She turns to her daughter. “Isidora, I thought we discussed this last year? You’re going to medical school.”

She shrugs. “I changed my mind. I want to be a cop and serve my community.”

“No! Being a cop is too dangerous. You saw what happened to your Tia today.”

“Being in the medical field is dangerous too.”

Tavia turns to me with a puzzled look. “Really? How so?”

“Well, for starters, they’re all the diseases and viruses you people are around, and then if she goes into X-ray tech, she is at risk of getting cancer from the radiation.” I take a sip of my coke. “And then there are the patients who get pissed at medical staff because they are not happy with the care they received. Granted, being a cop would put her at more immediate risks, but still risks all the same.”

She leans back in the chair. “You love making me look like the bad guy in front of my kid, don’t you?”

I take a bite of my curry. “I
