Back in September of 2011 I had written on facebook my desire to put out a book that was completely written by fans based on the Zombie Fallout world, and whereas I did get some great submissions it was not near the volume I needed to make a full size tome. In the mean time Tammie Holloway the Director ROP/CTE of the Napa County Office of Education contacted me and said that she had a great idea in regards to getting their student population excited about reading.
What she proposed was that the high school students create art based on the series and submit it for submission into the book. I said “Sure they can create the art, but I’m not judging it.” (chicken – I know but I didn’t want to have that much responsibility!) So they had a competition on their end with about 300 kids getting involved, I told her to send me the top dozen (she sent me 13, not sure what that says about the California educational system, but I’ll let that go, I didn’t want to have to tell any of the kids they were cut, she had to tell 287 of them.)
