Tim walked off and I saw him tap Alan on the shoulder. Alan sat up and looked over at Joe and me. He rubbed his eyes and sat up, as Tim went further into the back of the caravan.
After a few minutes, Ellie and Alan came to the front and Tim started to explain what had happened back at the castle.
"I'm sorry Ellie, but Nick and Aiden were silly enough to venture further into the castle. Now they are being held there against their will. We don't know how many people are back there, but we are going to try and get them back. As soon as we arrive back safely, I want you all to be ready to move. We’ll have to drive away from here as fast as we can. But Ellie... if we are not back within two hours, I want you all to leave." Tim said.
I saw Ellie cry. Tears fell as she nodded in agreement.
"Tim," Ellie said. "Please get them and come back safely... I don't want us to survive without any of you... okay?"
"Okay." Tim replied quietly looking at her and then hugging her tightly.
I knew it was going to be hard for us all, but times were not on our side anymore. It had gotten to be a tough world out there and I knew how much harder it was going to be for all of us.
I held onto my gun and looked at it. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle it or try to use it, but I knew I would need it. I had checked it earlier to see if there were bullets in it. It was fully loaded and that scared me, as we made our way out of the caravan and into the fields.
13. Aiden Lamb - The Escape
Nick and I, sat on our chairs, trapped and tied up. Whatever these people wanted, it was for nothing good he thought. The pain in his wrists were starting to hurt. He wished Nick had stayed put and not gone off like that, but it was too late to think about that now.
I, desperately, hoped the others would come back to rescue us, but I wasn't sure how they could save us. There were at least three people here from what I could see. I'd seen a woman earlier with a gun, then a big beefy man who had a rough accent and a tall man who looked at least six feet tall. Of course, there could be others around, but I wasn't sure. I hadn't seen or heard anyone else so far.
I looked around me to see if there was anyone about. No one lurked near us. The girl stood in the far corner of the area we were in. The castle walls were tall and it was too dark to see anything else. The only light came from a stick that was lit with fire.
"Nick..." I called in a whisper. I wanted to get his attention.
Nick turned his head to look at me.
"Hey... are you okay Aiden?" Nick asked in a whisper.
"Yeah... I suppose... my wrists hurt like crazy though. We need to get out of here." I said.
"I know... but how? There's three people here with guns."
"Well... I think the other two have gone somewhere, so there's only that girl over there, but she has a gun. If I can get my hands out of this rope then we can get away. Have you got anything sharp on you Nick?" I asked.
"No... even if I did, I wouldn't be able to get it. My hands are tied up too well." Nick replied.
"We have to do something to get out of here."
"Aiden... do you think Tim and Joe will get us out of here? I hope they do... I don't want my wife and kids to go on without me. She'll be devastated." I could see that Nick spoke with a tremble in his voice. He was scare and so was I.
"I'm sure they will come back and do something. Tim and Joe won't let that happen to us... I know it." I said trying to reassure Nick.
I sat there, trying to think what I should do. I tried so desperately to get my hands out of the rope, but it was useless. Nick's head was bent over with his thick dark hair falling over his eyes. He kept moving in his chair. I think, he thought, that if he did the rope would break, but it was too thick.
After about a minute of twisting myself a bit in my own tied up state, I heard a noise. I looked in the distance from where we had come from and I could see a flashing light. I turned my head slightly to see if anyone else had seen it, but the girl who was guarding us had her back to us. I was relieved.
I stared ahead again, but couldn't see anyone, but then something crawled amongst the grass just ahead of where Nick and I sat. I could hear a slight, rustling noise. I opened my eyes as wide as I could to see what was there and then, I thought I saw something like two bodies or maybe three, but I couldn't be sure. I could only get a glimpse of their shapes in the dark. Perhaps, they were wearing black clothes, I thought.
"Hey... Nick... look over there. What do you see on the grass?" I said.
I waited for Nick to look. I hoped he would see it too.
"Oh no... is that zombies crawling towards us?" Nick said in a panic.
"No... I don't think it is... it looks like three..." I stopped in mid sentence, because I suddenly realised what might be happening.
"Aiden... what is it? What's going on?" Nick whispered.
