gun and ammo but did not show that I had a knife in there. I tried not tolet the confusion show on my face. Why did he cover for me? Perhaps he hadmissed it?

"Nopenothing on him but these sweets, empty gun, few rounds of ammo and some kid’smagazines," Will told the other guy. "We should just let him goDeacon, he’s not worth our time. We need to be getting back." Will gavethe gun to Deacon and put my bag back on the floor.

"Mmmmm," Deacon said still looking at me, a smallsmile, more like a grimace touching his lips. "You got more survivors withyou? Kids perhaps? I do like kids."

The way hesaid it sent chills through my body, I had to protect my family from this man,I had a feeling that he was serious trouble.

"No,no one else, only me," I replied, looking at the floor afraid that if myeyes met his then he would see straight through my lies.

"I see… so why do you have kid’s magazines in your backpack?"

"I,I," I stuttered as my brain tried to come up with a lie quick enough formy mouth to tell. "I like kids also so I keep them in case I come acrossany." I smiled weakly, hoping he believed my lie.

"Wellthen, you need to come with us, back to our camp, as you don't have anyonearound here. You can join our group and I won't take no for an answer. You looklike you would fit in well,” he said as if challenging me to refuse hisoffer.  He looked me up and down, probably taking in the multiple tattoosthat adorned my neck, arms and hands.

My heartbeat faster and I was desperately trying to think of a reason not to go withthem but without giving up my family I could not think of one. I nodded my headslowly forcing myself to smile.

"Greatthanks," I accepted his offer, picking up my backpack. I followed Deaconback out of the store, we passed by Will who had a look of annoyance on hisface.

The brightsunlight outside caused me to squint and close my eyes. When I opened them, Iwas surprised at the sight before me. There were three Land-rovers outside, each with four or five men standing around them, then there was what I can onlydescribe as an army truck. You know the ones that you always see going down theroad with army men sat in the back, only in the back of this one there wereseven women.

The womenlooked petrified but did not say anything or even move from their seatedpositions.

"Will, you and the new guy are in back with the bitc... Imean women," Deacon barked as he got into the front of the truck.

"Everyoneelse, shop is empty, check out the store room."

Afteraround 10 minutes the men started coming back, each carrying a bag or two fullof stuff, along with some large black boxes that took two men to carry, apparently the stock room was well stocked.

As wepulled away Will whispered to me, "I think these are yours.” He handed memy sweets and with that he positioned himself in the middle of two women, satdown and closed his eyes.

CHAPTER 3: A NewHome

During thejourney I sat quietly trying to remember the route we were using to see if Icould work out where they were taking me. I lost track after about 30 minutesand just sat there with my eyes closed, thinking about Kelly and the kids, hoping that they were safe and wondering how I would be able to get back tothem and how long it would take. I vowed to get away as soon as I could. Iplanned to slip away in the night.

The journeyitself was uneventful and we arrived at our destination after about 5hours.  There was a nervous chatter going on with the women. One of themwas crying, some were trying to comfort others, and the rest just had dazedlooks on their faces. For the first time I started to wonder what I really hadgotten myself into.

I got outof the truck and looked around. We were in an industrial estate. The enclosurewe were in was framed by large fences, I would guess they were about 10ft talland completely surrounded us, the gates were made from the same fence but wereon wheels for easy movement. There were maybe six or seven zombies at the fencenear the gate. They must have seen us drive in.  I held my hand above myeyes to shield them from the sun and saw a few dozen more sluggish forms comingtowards the fence.

I walkedtowards the fence and the zombies got more excited the closer I got. They weremoving faster and pushing harder trying to break through. I got closer to thegate pretending to look at the zombies but I was trying to figure out whatsecurity they had on site. A zombie shuffled over clawing at the fence tryingto get to me. He was dressed in ripped jeans and a shirt which was stiff fromthe blood, gore and dirt all over it. His shoes were missing as was most of theskin off his feet, I could see some bone on the top of his foot and his toeswere missing from his left foot, leaving bloody stumps. The stench from thisman was not too bad and I had a feeling he had died and rose again quiterecently.

The otherswere moving closer too and I in turn moved faster to see that there were twoheavy duty chains holding the gate to the fence and these were held together bythe biggest padlocks I had ever seen. I don't think I’m going to be able topick these ones. I'll have to figure another way out.

The nextzombie to make it to me had long dark hair. One look at her had me throwing upmy food. She was naked and had bite marks over all of her body, her throat hadbeen ripped open and most of the soft flesh from her breasts, stomach andthighs was missing. She had a line of entrails coming out of the hole in herstomach. Huge chunks of flesh were missing
