He looked away, turning slightly red. “Then don’t say anything.” He leaned down and kissed me tenderly. I had no idea I had the same effect on them as they had on me. It made some of his behavior make a little more sense. The kiss was getting heated when a bang made us jump.
Travis sheepishly said, “Sorry,” as he stared at the floor. I laughed as I moved away from Kait.
“Don’t worry too much about it, Travis.”
“That’s what she says. You need to be more careful, boy.” I smiled behind my hand. Kait wasn’t actually mad at him, but now he was feeling emotionally raw. He had said more than he intended. Wait! How did I know that? I examined where that thought came from, and I realized that I was mirroring Kait now, like I had with David before. But, for some reason, with Kait, I could separate my emotions from his easily, even though I couldn’t do that with David. I raised an eyebrow at Kait.
“It’s because I have better control over my powers and emotions.” I nodded as I thought about it.
Travis was searching the kitchen for breakfast as well, but his shoulders were hunched. I went over to him and hugged him from behind. “Don’t worry about Kait, Travis. He’s just grumpy this morning.”
Kait snorted as Travis replied in a stage whisper. “Don’t let him fool you. He’s grumpy every morning before his coffee.”
I mock-gasped. “Really? The great and powerful Kait is not a morning person?”
Travis laughed and finally relaxed. They spent the next several minutes verbally sparring, but I could tell they both were enjoying themselves. Travis wasn’t wearing a shirt either, and the two of them together like that was doing funny things to my body. Then they started play-boxing. Oh My God. I watched their muscles move as they threw punches and dodged each other. I was so entranced, I didn’t hear the footsteps behind me until too late. Arms wrapped around me from behind, and a warm mouth trailed down my neck.
“Enjoying the show?”
My eyes were rolling back in my head as I managed a “hmmmm,” in reply.
David’s laugh was husky. Naughty images played in my head, and I wasn’t sure if they were my own creation or David’s. A voice clearing had me opening my eyes. Kait’s brown eyes were staring into mine.
I felt myself turn red. “What?” I asked, as nonchalantly as possible.
All three of them laughed. Travis stretched, his arms overhead, pulling his abs even tighter. David or Kait must have been sharing my thoughts with him, because his grin grew bigger as I drooled mentally. He turned his back to me and reached into a high cabinet for a coffee cup. I groaned.
“Why are you guys torturing me like this?” They all chuckled again.
“Oh, I don’t think it’s torture. You are enjoying it, aren’t you?” Kait whispered in my ear as he nibbled down my neck.
I moaned, incapable of words. Kait moved down a little farther until his lips were skimming my collar bone. David’s mouth went higher, nipping at my earlobe. Abruptly, they both stopped and moved away, starting up a normal conversation like they weren’t trying to make me spontaneously combust.
“So, David, are you ready for your mission today?”
“Yep. Everything is all planned and I’ve got all the supplies I need.”
“Excuse me? Mission? You said nobody was going on missions.” There was a squeak in my voice and not just because I was getting angry.
Travis side-eyed me as he chimed in. “I’ve got my stuff ready, as well.”
“Well, I see how your promises are, Kait! You said that I would be included…” I trailed off as I noticed that Kait was attempting to hide a huge smile behind his hand. David and Travis were smirking at me as well. “What?”
“Today’s mission is you, Babe. We are going to spend the day wooing you.” Travis winked at me after he said this.
My anger melted. Kait nodded at me. “You three need this time together.”
I looked at Kait with suspicion. “What will you be doing today?”
He leaned in to whisper in my ear again. “Thinking of you.”
“Bullshit, Kait! What are you going to be doing that you need these two to babysit me?”
He straightened and turned away. “Damn it, Princess! Not everything is a life or death thing, and just because they want to spend time with you, doesn’t mean they are babysitting you. I’m not going to go anywhere. I will be here, directing things and reading the reports you have put together.”
“I’m sorry, Kait.” I wrapped my arms around him from behind. “I always jump to the wrong conclusions.”
He patted my hands and moved out of my arms. “We do need to discuss the plans for the final attack at some point. I think we should do that after dinner. Tomorrow night is the meeting that we plant to attack. My generals will be here as well.”
“Okay.” My easy agreement had Kait raising an eyebrow me. I gave him a half-shrug back.
“You have until lunch with the boys, then I want all three of you to train from lunch to dinner.”
We all agreed. Travis came over and extended a hand. I took it and he pulled me up. David moved behind me, putting a warm hand on my back. Travis led me to the door and down the hall.
“So, uh, what’s the plan?” Travis laughed as he led me to the back door. There was a pile of coats, hats and gloves. I laughed.
“Don’t you think you need a shirt first?”
He just gave me a shit-eating grin as he reached into the pile to pull out a flannel shirt from under the coats. The bastard had planned the whole thing! It was already buttoned, so he pulled it on over his head as David handed me a feminine anorak coat in a deep purple. The hood had faux fur lining in a silver color. It was a gorgeous coat. David’s was a
