I never left without a smile gracing my face.
He’s taken me to explore the beautiful landmarks that I’ve only read about in schoolbooks. I saw pictures, but never knew that the world around me was so beautiful.
Lux is teaching me more than I ever learned in school. He’s my salvation, my true love, my destiny.
Thank God for meddling witches. I’ll be thankful to them ‘til the day I die.

Meeting His Match
North Texas Dark Leopards

Ridge
As the bikes rumbled down the long gravel road toward the clubhouse, Ridge had two things on his mind – cold beer and pussy, and not necessarily in that order. His ass hurt. His body ached. And for the first time in a long while, his leopard was feeling anxious, but Ridge couldn’t figure out why and neither could his beast. Not like the animal ever talked to him much.
It had been a long week for him and the boys.
First, the meeting for their latest gun shipment had been delayed since the ATF was in town. So, they had been stuck in a ratty-ass hotel in some podunk south Texas town longer than they had planned. Then, as they made their way back home, Ridge and the crew had to make their rounds to all the strip clubs that the MC had their hands in. It was the first of the month and payments were due. If the clubs wanted the Dark Leopard MC’s protection, then it came at a cost because nothing in this life was free.
Overall, it had been a shit week and Ridge was looking forward to sleeping in his own bed. He was ready for it. But first, he knew he had to talk to Lux, their President, to give him the latest news on all their dealings. It was at times like this, that he wondered if he was getting too old for the life he loved so much.
“Not even close, Brother,” Salvation said as he rolled up alongside him.
“Get out of my damn head,” Ridge replied.
Salvation was a hell of an ally, and an even better brother, but the man could hear thoughts and it freaked Ridge out. He couldn’t imagine how Salvation lived with hearing everything people were thinking. All the voices in his head. It would drive him mental.
“If you don’t want me to know, then hide it.” Salvation laughed.
Ridge shook his head.
Slowly letting off the throttle, he leaned his bike into the turn, then gunned it into the clubhouse parking lot. Looking around, you wouldn’t think much of the place. Their club was in the old, industrial district of the city and several of the businesses around them had long ago shut their doors. Other than the bikes, the only telltale sign that the club was there, was the DLMC written on the mailbox and the club’s flag that hung proudly on the side of the building.
Ridge found a place to park and carefully backed into the spot. Dismounting his bike, he stretched the tired muscles in his back and cracked his neck. Nodding his head toward Salvation and Jude, he waited while the Treasurer grabbed the money bag out of his saddlebag before they all walked toward the clubhouse.
Even before they entered, Ridge could hear the music and loud voices coming from inside. One of the perks of being a shifter – was excellent hearing. He could easily tell who was inside and who wasn’t. However, when a new voice reached his sensitive ears, for a brief moment, his steps faltered, and he froze.
Something was different. Absently, he rubbed a hand over the center of his chest.
“What’s up, man?” Salvation asked.
Ridge leaned his head to the side. There was the voice, again… The one he didn’t recognize. “Listen.”
“What?” Jude, the club’s Enforcer, asked.
“Who is that?”
“Who?” Salvation questioned.
“Y’all don’t hear her voice?” Ridge asked.
Jude and Salvation’s heads both tilted as they listened.
“Probably some new club girl.” Jude shrugged and headed inside.
“You okay, Brother?” Salvation asked.
He tried to figure out who the voice belonged to, and why it mattered so much, but for the life of him, he couldn’t. There was something about it that caused a weird feeling in his gut. It wasn’t a bad feeling, per se. Just… different.
Mate.
What?
Our mate. He could mentally see his snow leopard’s head raise. For the first time, in a long time, Ridge was fully aware of the animal that lived inside him.
No. Ridge couldn’t believe what his cat was saying.
The two beings rarely spoke to each other, his leopard tended to be more of a loner, even where Ridge was concerned. However, when it did talk to him, it was normally important. His cat had saved his ass more times than Ridge could count. But this? There was no way. He didn’t want a mate, did he?
“Ridge. What’s wrong?” Salvation asked, concerned. “Looks like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Salvation stared at him.
Ridge knew he was trying to read his thoughts, trying to figure out what had caused Ridge’s distress, but he wouldn’t find the answer. Even Salvation’s mind-reading skills had its limitations. What Ridge and his animal talked about, was strictly private.
Mate, his cat repeated.
I heard you the first time.
Go inside so we can see our mate.
We don’t have a mate,
