“I’d be willing to bet it has everything to do with that,” I answer, feeling bad for my cousin and the fact that he can’t claim his mate the way his animal is pestering him to do.
“You think he’ll make it another eight months?” Glory asks me.
“I don’t reckon he has much of a choice, mate.” When I answer this, I forlornly watch my cousin take a bottle of tequila and head for the single men’s bunkers. That’s gonna be trouble I’m gonna have to keep my eyes on. I can’t let him drown his sorrows away in liquor. He needs to be strong mentally and physically when the time comes for him to claim his woman.
Glory
I’ve watched the last few months as Maritsa’s made Echo jump through hoops for even a second of her time. But no one can disregard the way her eyes follow him if he’s not glued by her side. Echo confided in me that he shared what he is with her, and since then she’s been a bit standoffish with him, but doesn’t like for him to be far away. It’s taking some time, but she’s kept his secret for him and has vowed to never share it with anyone… even her mother.
She’s come with him several times while he shifts to run at the compound. She’s formed a bond with his leopard, one that she hasn’t quite come to have with his human counterpart. But that’s something that will happen in time, she’s still in therapy and recovering mentally from her experience.
It was never revealed to those who were taken the reason behind it, they just all assume it was a human trafficking ring, one we’re all complacent with them believing. In due time, Maritsa will learn the truth; and we’ll all be there for her. She’ll have tons of questions that Blaze, as well as myself, will do everything we can to explain it to where she understands.
“I hope that doesn’t become an everyday thing while Maritsa’s away,” I say to my mate as his arms band tighter around me.
“I may send him on a run. We have a pipeline that’s in need of manpower. It’ll be the perfect way to keep his mind occupied on something other than Maritsa.” Whereas I don’t know all of the ins and outs as far as the club’s businesses are concerned; I do happen to know that they run illegal parts for cars throughout the United States. This is what happens when you’re in another room with supreme hearing as the officers converse about club happenings. But, as a good old lady and mate, I’ve kept my mouth zipped firmly shut. Not even Blaze is aware that I know this about them.
“I think that’d be an excellent idea,” I share with my mate.
“Then that’s what I’ll do.” His declaration has me deflating, I hadn’t realized how worried I’d been about Echo until this moment passed.
“Love you, Blaze. You’re my everything.”
“Love you too, Glory. My world. My love. My true mate.”
And just like that, my world rights itself. I have confidence that in time, everything will work out the way it’s supposed to for Maritsa and Echo. The supreme beings wouldn’t have declared them as mates if it wouldn’t come to pass. It’s very uncommon for mates, whether shifter or human, to turn a blind eye to the gift they’ve been granted.
Love is in the air.
Four months later…
“Push, Glory,” Blaze issues as his eyes glisten with unshed tears.
“I’m pushing, I’m pushing!” I hastily declare. “I’d be more than happy to let you do this if you’d prefer.”
“Honey, if that was physiologically a possibility, I’d be more than willing to take on this pain for you,” Blaze declares, wiping my head with a cool cloth. Digging my nails into his wrist, I give over to my body’s demands and push even harder than I was before.
“That’s it, Glory. One more push and baby A will make its grand entrance into the world,” Dr. Clementine, a shifter doctor, informs me. I begin to pant as I prepare myself for one more solid push. I hear a wail bouncing off the walls of this room and collapse against the bed as it’s announced that we have a son.
“Delta Echo Montgomery,” I announce, naming him after Blaze’s father and cousin. Two men who are important to both Blaze and myself.
After pushing for another five minutes, another baby's cries can be heard. This one we’re told is a girl.
“Harper Angelique Montgomery,” I state; this little girl is named after both of our mothers. Two strong, loving women.
“You’ve given me everything a man could ever want,” Blaze whispers with tears he’s finally let fall free from his eyes.
“And you, my mate, have made all of my dreams come true,” I reply, with tears of my own freefalling. “I thank the fates every day for making me yours.”
“Best thing the fates have ever done for me, Glory. You and our two cubs complete a part of me I hadn’t realized was missing.”
“Ditto, Blaze. Ditto.”
