know was that I couldn’t live without you so I had to make it work.”

“Is that why you wear the gloves?” I nodded.

“Yes, it’s to protect everyone I come in contact with.” Kaitlyn went quiet, her brain running through everything I had told her more than likely. One thing I knew for certain, I needed to eliminate the threat against her. If I killed her father, then he would never come after her. I couldn’t guarantee that someone wouldn’t finish what he started but I would cross that bridge when I came to it. I would warn him against coming after her but there was no way that a guy like that would listen. No, I needed to end this and put her mind at ease.

As the days went on, Kaitlyn began to withdraw into herself more. She barely ate or slept. She would go to work then come home and climb back into bed or curl up on the couch. I was at a loss of what to do. I asked Blaze and Glory about what to do and they told me to just give her time. She was still reeling from the death of her friend. The more I forced her to talk or eat, the further she would withdraw. As much as it pained me to, I let her be. Picking her up after work one afternoon, she got in my car, kissed me on the cheek but didn’t say a word. I started the car and headed home. When we got there, Kaitlyn went inside and put her stuff in the bedroom.

“I’m gonna run a bath.” With another kiss, she was gone. I couldn’t take it anymore, I snapped. Not at her but being so helpless. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I moved to the fridge and took a beer out. Opening it up, I took a long pull from the bottle. Unlocking my phone, I found Decoder’s number and tapped my thumb against his name. As it rang, I took another drink.

“Kane? You good?”

“No. I need you to get me all the information you can on Tyler Jenkins. I need it ASAP.”

“On it. Check your email in ten.” He hung up and I made quick work of finishing off my beer. I gave him fifteen minutes before checking my email. I’m sure the answer I needed was one google search away but I knew I would get sucked into a vortex. What I really wanted was the two addresses where I would find him. Grabbing my keys from the countertop, I shoved my phone back into my pocket and moved down the hall toward Kaitlyn. I knocked on the bathroom door before opening it. Walking in, seeing her knees up against her chest and her chin resting on her knees; she lifted her head to look up at me as I walked in.

“I gotta run out for a bit. If you need anything before I get back, I am going on my bike so call Blaze or Glory if it’s urgent.” I leaned down and pressed my lips against her head.

“Kane, is that beer on your breath? Where are you going?”

“I’m fine, just call Blaze or Glory. Their numbers are in your phone.” I turned and walked out, closing the door after me. I ignored the sound of her calling out my name. By the time she was out of the bath and had a towel wrapped around her, I was in the garage and had my helmet on.

“Where are you going?”

“Just go back inside. I have something I need to do.”

“For the club? Why are you going but Blaze isn’t?”

“I can’t answer, Kaitlyn. Just go inside.” I started my bike and pulled out of the garage. Putting the door down, I didn’t look at her as I pulled out of the driveway and left. I just hoped to fucking Christ she didn’t do something stupid right now. By the time she got dressed and into her car, I would be far enough away for her not to be able to know which direction I went in. Next stop: Doucheville.

When I arrived in town, I pulled over and took my phone out. I saw the missed calls and messages from Kaitlyn and there was one from Blaze. Three simple words that told me I was in deep shit for not calling him and giving him a heads up that my hysterical girlfriend might call him.

Blaze: Call me NOW!

I took a deep breath before tapping my thumb against his name and then the phone icon. It took him seconds to answer.

“Kane, what the fuck is going on?”

“I had some business I needed to take care of.”

“What business could you have that you couldn’t tell Kaitlyn before you left to go and take care of it?”

“Not without her being an accessory to it. Couldn’t exactly tell her that I was going to kill her father now, could I?”

“You are going to do what now?”

“You heard me.”

“Oh, I know. I was hoping I heard you wrong.”

“Nope.” I heard him sigh.

“Look, it’s clearly too late to stop you from doing something stupid so just be careful okay? Next time, a heads up would be nice.”

“Sorry, Pres.”

“I’ll get Glory to talk her down. Fuck’s sake, Kane. I could kill you. Next time, don’t kiss her goodbye after a fucking beer.” He hung up before I could say anything back. Pulling up the info from Decoder, I looked it over again. I had spent the drive here coming up with the best plan of action. A guy like Jenkins would have security with him wherever he went so it would be hard to get around that. My best plan was to get him at home. He lived on a big enough property to be able to find access one way or another so I headed there after checking the directions. Parking my bike down the street, I made my way back toward the
