“Be mine, Kendra,” he panted as he released my mouth so he could pull the shirt off.
“Will you be mine?” I asked softly.
“Have been since the first moment I saw you,” he replied.
I melted into the bed and smiled up at him.
“Then I guess I’m your old lady.”
Epilogue
Roark
Six months later…
Kendra paced back and forth, in our room. She was restless just like she had been over the past few weeks. The clubhouse was spotless because of her. Anytime she got restless, she either cleaned or paced. Since the club was spotless, I was stuck watching her pace.
“Sweetheart, will you please sit down? I’m starting to get nauseous watching you walk back and forth,” I sighed and patted the bed next to me.
“How can you just sit there?” she asked, flailing her arms up in the air. “Today is the day.”
“It’s really not that big of a deal,” I chuckled and patted the bed again. Her shoulders slumped and then she pouted all the way over to me and plopped down beside me. I wrapped my arm around her waist.
“I am scared,” she admitted softly. I kissed the side of her head.
“I know you are, but there’s no reason to be. I promise.”
She relaxed some, but I could still hear her heart pounding like a drum. My poor mate was wound up tight. I had tried everything to distract her mind. I even sent her out on a shopping spree with Banshee. Kendra was right back to nervousness the next day.
“Do I need to distract you again?” I kissed the side of her neck and she trembled.
“You distracted me this morning,” she blushed. My teeth grazed the side of her neck and she sucked in a sharp breath.
“That was this morning though, sweetheart.” I nipped her neck.
“Roark,” she whimpered. “I don’t want to smell like sex when I meet them.”
My head tilted back and I erupted in laughter. Kendra was always worried about my kind’s sense of smell. I assured her over the past few months that no one would talk about it. She wasn’t hearing it though.
“Kendra, relax,” I kissed her cheek and pulled her onto my lap. “They’ll only be here for a few days. And, they’re here to visit. Not here to interrogate or judge.”
“Easy for you to say,” she muttered. “You won’t be the one standing out like a sore thumb. I’m a human, Roark.” Her expression went from concern to sadness. I lifted her chin with my finger.
“Sweetheart,” I smiled. “You are more than just a human. You’re my mate.”
“I know, but–”
I kissed her swiftly then shook my head.
“But nothing,” I said firmly.
“You really are a pain in my ass,” she giggled and rested her head on my shoulder. “Did they say what time they’ll be here?”
“No cl–”
“They’re here,” Banshee shouted excitedly. Kendra tensed on my lap before hopping off it and flattening out her dress. I rolled my eyes before standing up and taking her hand in mine.
“Do I look okay?” Kendra asked with wide eyes and a shaky voice.
“You look beautiful.” I kissed her hand and then led her out of the bedroom door and down the hall to the front door.
“Hey, Koroleva,” a familiar deep voice said outside the door.
“Hi, Max! Clara!” Banshee squealed. Kendra and I stepped outside and into the sunlight. Kendra squeezed my hand. I looked at her and smiled, but her eyes weren’t on me. She looked straight ahead at the two people she had been worrying about.
“Hey, dad,” I smiled. My dad turned around and faced us. He looked like a new man. He didn’t look as old as he had when he was the president of the MC. Retirement had been kind to him as was the hair dye he must have been using because his hair hadn’t been that black since I was a kid.
“Hey, boy,” he grinned. “This her?” Kendra stiffened beside me.
“The one and only,” I smiled. “Mom. Dad. This is Kendra, my mate.”
My mom was the first one to rush over to us. She pulled Kendra against her and hugged her. Seeing two of the three most important ladies in my life hugging made me smile.
“It is so nice to meet you, Kendra,” my mom whispered into Kendra’s ear and rubbed Kendra’s back.
My mom was nearly half a foot shorter than Kendra. Her silver hair stood out against Kendra’s auburn hair. Retirement had been good to my mom, too. She looked happier. Or maybe she was just happy to be meeting Kendra.
My mom had nagged me my entire life about finding my mate, settling down, and having children. Now, half of her dreams for me had come true. Kendra and I just hadn’t had any children yet. Not that I wasn’t hoping for a kid or two. It was something Kendra and I hadn’t talked about yet. We were still in the honeymoon phase and I didn’t want to ruin things by asking about having a kid.
“She is beautiful,” my mom boasted to my dad. My dad smiled and approached Kendra.
“You are stunning, my dear,” my dad said before hugging Kendra. My mom wrapped her arms around the two.
It was picture perfect. My parents with my mate. Kendra’s heart was no longer pounding. The tension in her shoulders was gone and I could tell she felt at ease.
“She’s the best, Max. She keeps Roark in check,” Banshee laughed.
“Oh, yeah?” my dad chuckled and released Kendra from his hug. I grabbed her around the waist and pulled her against my side.
“It’s true,” I smiled down at Kendra, who was looking up at me smiling.
“I am so happy for the two of you,” my mom smiled. “I thought Roark would never find his mate. He’s too stubborn.”
Kendra leaned against my side and giggled.
“He really is,” Kendra agreed. Banshee and my mom laughed, while my dad nodded in agreement.
“I see that I’m outnumbered,” I sighed. My mom waved off my words and looked at Kendra.
“I brought you something,” my mom said excitedly to
