“Odd-balls, you mean the unsanctioned magic users, yeah, don’t you know what type of problem that is?”
“It is not a problem here; you bringing in the calvary will cause issues. I, for one, am not in the mood for your fancy pants mages to declare war or whatever on us supernaturals here. Why don’t we try something smarter?”
“Such as?”
“Handle these people, and you go home from your little break once it’s handled. The calvary here will start a war, you know it, and I do as well. I am not willing to be a part in starting one, but hell, I will end it.”
“You think you and your what, biker cats will take down well-trained mages?”
I gave no warning, no sign before I leaped onto the bed. I could move in a blur of speed, as fast as my cat counterpart as my claws started to pour from my fingers before I landed on the bed. Straddling over his prone body, surprising him before tackling him down, knee in the groin and the other on the side of his body. I grabbed his face, claws grazing over his cheeks, holding his jawline in my dangerous grasp. My other hand stabbed the pillow with long claws to lean into his face, eyes turning into the solid gold of my jaguar. “Yes, we would win. You play by rules and regulations. This is our turf and our lives.”
Magic began to flare in the room, his hand began to flicker as his fingers to start casting. “Do you want me to hurt you to make my point?”
His eyes shifted from the hazel green-blue to a solid ocean glow of waves of seas and waters. They changed, glowed with the magic within him, warming his skin and the room around me. He closed his eyes to take a deep breath, stopping his spell. “No, I get it. I don’t want to fight you; I want to get those bastards holding my people. I know you get that. So, if you won’t let me call in help, are you helping?”
“We have worked together before, Sunshine. You know where this place is? We can track, seek, and destroy. Free your friends and get the hell out of my city.”
“Your city, really when did your ego explode? You’re a biker chick who happens to turn into a jaguar.” I dug my claws in, breaking skin along his jaw. He flinched but didn’t look away. He learned enough not to act as prey while the cat within was right in front of him, I wasn’t trying to maul him, but right now it might feel good.
“Don’t be an asshole, I am willing to help. I might just be a biker chick that turns into a cat, but I also can hunt killers, and I have a shit load of guns. If they are holding mages, they will be prepared for magic, but they haven’t come for my kind. I took two of them and hurt the other without them even knowing what hit them.”
“They know now.”
“It takes preparation. Let’s get ready to hunt.”
“Fine.” He shifted as my claws began to pull back into my skin. I bumped his forehead with mine, as the cat retreated into my body. He bounced again with the hit to his forehead. “I didn’t mean to piss you or your cat friend off.”
“Good, try to remember I am still a predator, and pissing me off has consequences.”
“Roger that, Fee. Now can I get up and start our bizarre day?”
“Maybe, so really not married, how did they not get you hitched or breeding a ton of new mages?”
“I have been busy, taking every job they had and avoiding the whole dating and mating things.”
“Aw, poor boy.”
“Yeah, being a monk seemed better than what you are up to, I mean a bike gang, club whore, come on you could do better.”
I slapped him before I thought anything about it. I was a lot of things, legal and illegal, but whore was not one of them. His head snapped to the side, shocked by the slap before glaring back up to me. “I give you a lot of leeway, Caleb, but whore is too far. I have not nor ever been a whore, even your beloved family didn’t call me that. I am a biker and part of a club, but with other shifters, I am not being passed around like a piece of meat. For fuck’s sake, I am like third on the list of command and control the weapons and keep my people safe. I don’t fuck them all.”
“But you are a girl in a biker gang, aren’t they all…” He stopped before I had to slap him again.
“No, fuck, you know nothing about us or what we do. You think all shifters just get it on, shocking. Glad the whole judging without knowledge is still strong with mages.”
“Look, what I am supposed to think? You run around with a bunch of guys and women who are usually flaunting it like there is no tomorrow. Rumors about being sexual all the time are rampant, Fee.”
“Like how all mages are stuck up sons of bitches? I know that isn’t true, but it certainly attempts to look that way. Stop being a judgmental asshole.”
“I am not an asshole, I just thought…” He paused.
“That I am free for anyone while you are bravely celibate to slap your family. Please, if I want sex, I will go for it, yes, but I am no whore, and if you ever call me that again, I will do more than just slap you.”
“Fine, it just bothers me to think you are out fucking whoever you want, whenever you want without any thought about…”
“About you?” How am I supposed to think about you? You left me due to your family. That was pretty damn final since I am
