Landing in water, the room was covered in water and ice, dripping in the swelling heat with another bunch of mages collared and working on spelling the water. The tingle of magic dances around, more active than the other two rooms. Slinking lower into the water, I began to sneak through and search around with magic spinning through the air. There is an undertone of some blood and violence. I switch my senses, allowing the kanima out better, searching for murderers among the scents of people.
It flares to life; several are killers close by misted in magic. My claws grow, and my teeth elongate as my body begins to shift up from the standard jaguar form to the less used and harder to control. The mix of human and jaguar, the were-jaguar, or kanima as it is called in South America. It was a side effect of my turning and not one I used often. I was far too dangerous to stay in this form, the urges of hunting all murderers overwhelmed my common sense and knowledge. I felt a touch from Caleb, attempting to get my attention but shrugged off the magic tickling the back of my mind.
The first of several killers came into focus, I could sense their heat, their bloody hands, their murderous intents and the evil of their hearts through the walls. The three in front of me had no remorse, two had plans for more death and soon. Seeing more to die by their hands, I sensed innocence in danger. With a snarl, I lost control of the kanima within, the revenge of the jaguar upon killers taking over, seeking to right the injustice of the innocent lives they wanted to end.
Shifting entirely to bipedal, I had fur covers with a long tail to keep my balance. My claws formed with fangs that could rip through people as easily as if they were tissue. Jumping from my watery place, I hit the three closest enough to dig my hand into the first body I could find. Baring my teeth and releasing a savage roar, I began to work through the people in my way. I felt the magic surge around me, charging toward me as my claws tore through a piece of flesh, sinking into the bone. Blood splattered over me and flowed down the walls, but it didn’t matter. I wrapped my fingers into the next head and threw the person to the side. He bothered to fight back, flailing his arms and legs, but I held him down with my unnatural strength. Pushing my knees into his chest, the magic slammed into my back, desperate to get me off. With the magics against me, I rolled to the side. Another blast of power rocked me, angering me to rage, a fury flowing through my core. How dare they continue to attack me? I grabbed the nearest throat with bloody claws and squeezed until it snapped. This one went limp before I tossed it aside to track the next warm body daring to fight me. Grabbing the following form that had tried to run, I pounced, ripping through the back of the neck, destroying the spinal cord with several shakes until it stopped screaming. Then I continue to hunt down the others daring to run from me and my fury.
Chapter Seventy-Eight
I dropped the heart of the last abuser to the floor, the pile of bodies behind me stinking up the area, but no others came into the room. All the bodies remained still, life taken from them with several swift movements. I had somewhat turned back into my pure cat form, batting at the corpses to keep them dead. One of the lights flickered as the magic began to fade within the room. Hissing, I jumped up to a high point to wait for the next opponent to appear. The wards fell as one of the closed doors flew open.
“Fee, where are you?” Caleb yelled over the water pouring out of the building. Jumping down into the water, I allowed it to splash out under my paws. I then padded over to wash the blood from my fur. I felt filthy covered in the blood of those around me, and needed to get it unstuck from my coat. Several balls of light floated up, solid white to catch my attention. Batting at the closest one I saw my person approach, he tossed a large piece of meat, a cow from the scent that I swiftly ate. He approached slow and showing respect, I allowed him to close in then I head bumped him, and rubbed against the side of his face. The metal on his face shifted, an annoyance, but he rubbed into my fur. He took his long fingers into my thick pelt, rubbing against my cheeks and ears. I rumbled under his fingers, marking him as mine.
He rubbed me until he finally stood several minutes later, searching around the room with the balls of light following him. I batted at several of them, but my paw went right through them. I trotted behind him as he checked over the bodies spread around. He yanked off several pieces of silver, breaking them into pieces as several people started screaming from rooms I had already searched. Mages were being freed. I dragged a few bodies toward him to finish off the freeing, while several mages starting coming in, lost and confused. Caleb began to handle them as I finished with the bodies to start a full-body cleaning. Licking long strokes as Caleb put on the mage pants to explain shit that meant nothing to me in my current
