Tessa, Sam, Arica, and Norine all worked together, gathering the names and abilities of everyone in the group before Finn awoke. Tessa wanted to have a general plan of attack in organizing these people. She needed to put the best person in each position to maximize efficiency. Everyone would need to have a specific job function to make this plan work. Their survival was a collective effort, and everyone need to pitch in and help.
Once Finn joined them, Tessa called a quick meeting of just the original group. They need to establish critical operational needs before involving the whole group in the conversation. Sam’s chief concern being security was high on the list of necessities, and with his expertise, it made sense for him to head that operation. Arica was a biologist, so health and dietary needs would be her focus. Finn’s power was technology, so Tessa assigned him to the Arc Project. Tessa would assist in the mechanical engineering of the vessel. She didn’t assign Norine command of any position because she wasn’t entirely convinced Norine was trustworthy. For now, she would assist Arica in the general care of the refugees. Tessa noticed her aunt’s disapproving reaction upon realizing she was not entrusted with a task, but Tessa wasn’t ready to take a risk on her yet. Norine still needed to prove her loyalties before Tessa could trust her.
With the bare bones of an organization in place, they gathered the rest of the refugees for a meeting. Tessa opened the meeting by presenting a general mission statement. She explained the information they recovered from H.I.V.E regarding Project Genesis and revealed she planned to recreate the arc to save as many lives as possible, but to choose the occupants by a fair voting process.
Tessa explained their need for heads of security, health and food; technology and engineering. When she announced putting Sam and Arica in charge, protests erupted among the Evo refugees. They didn’t want to take orders from humans anymore. Tessa to the time to explain her plans for forging alliances with humans. Many of the Evos hated the notion, but Tessa would not move forward any other way. The Evo refugees weren’t forced to stay. If they didn’t agree with her principals, they were free to leave.
The problem humanity faced as Earth fell apart affected both humans and Evos. If there is a resolution, it needed to involve both species. Tessa grew tired of the propaganda and the finger-pointing between humans and Evos. Both sides were responsible for their mistakes in the past, but it was time to put differences aside. If they couldn’t work together, then they would fight each other until the Earth, and everything living here died.
Tessa laid out her whole vision to the group, and although some hesitated, they all started contemplating her proposal. These Evos had endured unimaginable pain at the hand of humans, and if Tessa could convince them to foster peace, then there might be hope for humanity.
Tessa didn’t want to establish complete control as a dictator and opened critical positions to a group vote. Each area of focus needed more than one person to work in specialized areas. Sam oversaw security but someone needed to focus on facility security and someone else on airport perimeter security. They needed delegation to divide and conquer in a short amount of time. Arica focused on locating food and water sources, but they also need to develop greenhouses for a continuous food supply. The Evos voted in their leaders based on experience and abilities. Anyone not elected to a post joined one of those teams, and the real work was ready to begin.
With teams in place, Tessa moved forward with her part of the project, which was engineering. Tessa and Finn left the concourse to explore the airport facilities in more detail. There had to be equipment they could use somewhere on the grounds they just had to locate and document on her map with a list of contents in each hangar.
Arica and some of her team came along with Finn and Tessa to search the military hangars. They located those facilities first. Food and water were high on the priorities list, so finding military rations came first. In one hangar, they found some MREs and bottled water, a big win for the Arica’s team. They also discovered military equipment, including planes, helicopters, motorcycles, and jeeps.
It was no wonder this hangar remained stocked, part of the building had collapsed, and many of the vehicles remaining were damaged. But damaged equipment wasn’t a problem for Tessa or Finn.
Tessa used her power to lift the heavy debris from the collapsed roof off the equipment. Once they got a better look, they realized this hangar was a gold mine. Together Tessa and Finn could make some repairs and add a helicopter, four motorcycles, and two jeeps to their inventory. Arica searched inside the plane and found a medical survival kit. The aircraft wasn’t repairable, but they could salvage the bird for parts. They loaded up the new vehicles with supplies and delivered Arica and her team back to base.
Tessa and Finn returned to searching other hangars and found more equipment. They noted locations on the map so they could return to collect. Finn found a hangar with security intact and he reconfigured the system. This location would serve as their build site. It seemed like the most secure option. Plus, they could hide their project from any eyes in the sky, which
