He left his office and went over to the one beside his, which was now Sawyer’s new one. Sawyer had insisted Ford get his old one since he was in charge of the development, and then had set up another for himself for days he actually came in, which were few and far between.
Ford peeked his head inside. Sawyer was working away on his laptop, and he just leaned against the doorframe and watched his boyfriend. He liked catching Sawyer in his glasses whenever he could. It was sexy.
Sawyer looked up and tutted. “Checking me out on company time? Very inappropriate, Mr. Erickson.” He burst out laughing at his own joke, and Ford rolled his eyes, chuckling as he entered the room.
“You always think I’m checking you out,” Ford teased. “I think that means you’re checking me out, too, Mr. Lancaster.”
Sawyer chuckled and leaned back in his seat. “Maybe cause I am.”
Ford stopped beside Sawyer and lowered his head for a quick kiss.
“It also seems that being around the kids has turned your sense of humor into a bunch of dad jokes.” Ford raised a brow and smirked when Sawyer pulled a face, then he went on, “Have you spoken to Mark since we’ve been back?” Ford leaned against Sawyer’s desk beside his chair.
Sawyer let out a snort. “I have, and apparently Theresa wanted to let me know she’s very upset we didn’t invite them on our Disney trip.”
A smile tugged at his lips. He liked Theresa. She was a lovely woman, although he’d only met her once, but she texted him often asking about the kids and Sawyer.
“Next time,” Ford said.
“Definitely.” Sawyer mouth turned up. “Maybe this time—” Sawyer’s laptop pinged, and he glanced at it and immediately began typing.
Ford waited until he was done to ask, “How’s the new guy working out?”
Sawyer gave a half-smile. “Good. He’s the one I’m talking to. He’s about to fly to Zanzibar, we just purchased a resort there that needs some attention.”
“And Mark is happy with him?” Ford checked. He knew how worried Sawyer was about the move happening sooner than expected.
“He is.” Sawyer nodded. “We’ve worked with him before, and he’s perfect for this.”
Ford bit his lips. He was from the school of thought to not ask questions you didn’t want the answers to, yet still he found himself asking, “Do you miss it?”
“Miss what babe?”
“Everything, I guess.” Ford licked his lips as a voice whispered in the back of his mind, you started it, might as well finish. “You used to travel to different parts of the world at the drop of the hat. Now, you stay in one place, you just signed up for PTA, we have to change the laundry soap we’ve been using because Gavin is allergic, and we need a new mop in the house.”
Ford felt Sawyer’s eyes on him but didn’t look his way.
“Ford, baby, look at me.” Sawyer’s voice was soft but commanding. He slowly looked up, meeting Sawyer’s eyes.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, babe.”
Ford was about to interrupt, but Sawyer stopped him.
“I’m serious. I love traveling. I got to see places that I never even dreamed of, and I’ve met people all over the world. But it was always me alone in some hotel suite or apartment at the end of the day. My life might not be how I imagined”—Sawyer placed a hand over his—“but it’s better. You and the kids have added color to it. Besides, I want to show you and the kids everywhere I’ve been. I want to give them everything I never had. I may have not dreamed this, babe, but that’s only because I wouldn’t have known how.”
Ford’s lips curved at that. Sawyer’s amazing heart was just one of the many reasons Ford had fallen for him. He didn’t say anything. Instead, he simply lowered his head and took Sawyer’s lips in a kiss, pouring everything he felt into it. When he finally pulled back, he whispered, “It’s better than the dream.”
“No more worrying, okay? I am exactly where I want to be,” Sawyer said.
“Maybe we should get away from here. I know we just had a week off, but it doesn’t mean we have to go guns a-blazing, back to work, you know? Everything is under control. We could take some more time, just the two of us,” Ford suggested
Sawyer leaned back in his seat again and wiggled his brow. “What do you have in mind? The broom closet?”
Ford almost choked on his laugh. “Uh no… get your mind out of the gutter.” He shook his head. “How about we cut out early?”
Sawyer crossed his arms. There was a twinkle in his eye, which Ford had been intrigued about from the first moment they’d first seen one another. “Do you have something in mind? The back of the car? Run home and have hot sex all throughout the house?” His eyes traveled up Ford’s body.
“Don’t we have a one-track mind?” Ford teased.
Sawyer turned in his seat and pulled Ford between his thighs. “With you. Always.”
He couldn’t stop the grin even as his hands went around Sawyer’s neck. “Flatterer.”
Sawyer’s hands slipped into the back pockets of his jeans, cupping his ass. “Is it flattery if it’s true?”
Ford leaned down for another kiss, then whispered against his lips, “You say the sweetest things.”
“Well, you are my sweetie.”
At Sawyer’s words, Ford burst out laughing. He couldn’t help it. Sawyer sniggered alongside him.
“Okay, okay.” Sawyer shook his head. “In all seriousness, though, what do you have in mind? Don’t tell me you don’t wanna get dirty. Not after the filthy things we did over the past
