„It`s fucking incredible, and you know it. Stop gloating; it`s very unattractive.”
She grins at me and takes a bite out of her food.
„I agree; it is fucking incredible. Lucky for you, I`m an excellent cook, and I know a lot of healthy recipes, so at least in that regard, you`ll be a happy camper for the next six months.”
„I`m trying to enjoy my meal, could you stop reminding me about the fact that we`re stuck together for half a year.”
Some people are so rude.
She rolls her eyes at me, but her smile is still in place, and it strikes me that she`s the kind of person that smiles a lot. I hate those kinds of people.
„Fine, we`ll talk about something else. I know you`ll probably want to know if I have everything that I need in my room.” No, I don`t. „The answer is yes, it`s a lovely room. The only thing is I don`t have a TV”
„The only TV`s in the house are in the living room and the work-out room. TV`s are bad for your sleep, so I don`t have them in the bedrooms.”
Her eyebrows shoot up at that little piece of information.
„So when you want to watch TV, you only do it in the living-room?”
„Yes. Bedrooms are for sleeping .”
And other things, but I`m not getting into that with her.
She shrugs and takes a sip of her water.
„Hey, your house, your rules.”
After that, we mostly talk about what my schedule would be for the next week since I`m starting physiotherapy tomorrow.
It was going to be hard, but I`m itching to get back to work, so I don`t care about the pain. Trying to get rid of the pain is what got me into this mess in the first place.
After we finish eating, I help her clear the plates, after which she shooed me away ,telling me she does better work cleaning when she`s alone.
„Well, I guess I`ll be heading to my room then. Thanks for dinner.”
God, this is so awkward.
„I`m glad you liked it. I`ll have breakfast ready tomorrow morning at seven, and then we`ll go to the doctor`s office.”
Again a reminder I was under constant surveillance. Earlier, when Hoggins was here, he went through my stuff to make sure I didn`t have any more pills, and I have never felt so humiliated in my life. This was going to be my life for the next six months, and I hate it.
Sophie
My first night in my temporary home was surprisingly okay. I read for a bit before bed, since I don`t have a TV in my room, and then I fell asleep a lot faster then I thought I would.
All in all, things had gone better than I thought they would.
Sure, Max doesn't want me here and probably finds me annoying at the moment, but for some reason, I don`t feel intimidated by him. He`s sarcastic, and I have a feeling he`ll be a real grouch first thing in the morning, but I kind of like him.
You can usually tell if you`re going to like a person or not from the get-go, but a lot of us refuse to listen to our intuition. Not me, I trust my instincts, so he`s just going to have to live with my liking him.
I decide to make scrambled eggs, toast, and avocado for breakfast this morning until I figure out what his food preferences are. You can`t go wrong with eggs and avocado if you ask me, so that`s what I`m going with.
I`m just finishing pouring my coffee when he stumbles in the kitchen with that zombie's face that people who hate mornings have.
„Good morning,” I say as cheerfully as possible.
He doesn't answer or even acknowledges me in any way before coming towards me and stealing my coffee cup and taking a long sip. He scrunches his nose at the bitter taste-i drink my coffee black- before pouring an obscene amount of sugar in it. I raise my eyebrows because, frankly, I hadn`t pictured him as a sweet coffee kind of guy.
„What?”
Oh well, in for a penny.
„Nothing, I just pegged you for a black coffee, no sugar kind of guy.”
„Really, and why is that?”
Cause all the hot guys in romance novels/movies like to drink their coffee black.
„No reason.” I smile at him and pour myself another cup.
„It`s too early in the morning for your weirdness, hobo. Can`t you like turn it down till after ten or something?”
„Ok, repeat after me: BO-HO.Boho. It`s not that hard.”
He gives me a blank stare, so I sigh and turn around to get his breakfast. Maybe after he eats, I can have an actual conversation with him. Yeah, I`m not holding my breath.
„Here`s your breakfast.”
I half expect him to say he`s not hungry, but he picks up his fork and demolishes his food. I don`t get any little moans this time, but I can tell he`s enjoying it.
„Aren`t you going to eat?” he grumbles while chewing his eggs.
„I already ate. I`ve been up since five.”
„Why in god`s name would you get up so early?” He looks scandalized, and I can`t help but smile at his expression.
„I like to get up early so I can do some yoga. It helps me start my day right.”
His face turns from scandalized to disbelieving.
„You`re telling me you willingly get up at five in the morning so that you can do what is basically glorified stretching, and you claim that helps you start the day right?”
„Yes”
„But you`re not a hippie.”
„Nope,” I say as I drink from my Make love, not war mug.
He shakes his head and takes the last sip of coffee from his mug.
„Right. Well, I`m ready when you are, so if you just grab your things, we`ll go.”
„Sure, I`ll be a minute. Do you want to take my car?”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is when I get my first frown of the day.
„Shit, I forgot I can`t drive yet.”
His shoulder isn`t as bad as it was, but he still doesn't have the okay
