Many of the French soldiers went wild from their rage. They shot into crowds of Muslims, killing thousands before their officers could regain control. The streets of Paris were littered with the skeletons of burnt out cars and trucks. The shops and homes that lined the famous streets were empty, burned out skeletons, only the mosques survived. Two of the giant mosques were destroyed when a squad of very angry soldiers planted C-4 explosives which, when ignited, destroyed them. Those responsible for the destruction faded into the night. The world’s governments which counted on their militaries to maintain order quickly realized that, in many cases, those same soldiers wanted to be with their families if this was the end. The soldiers took their weapons, ammo, food, and medical supplies and disappeared.
Those in the UK realized most of their island might be washed away, so they quickly filled every flight to the USA, Canada, or Australia, anywhere but on a small island. Airliners had removed business class to jam in additional seats. They also limited the number of bags to one per person in order to keep the weight of the plane down. The planes left the UK every thirty minutes. The price per seat was extremely high, but to those who could afford it, it meant nothing as long as they could get off the island.
Another problem in Europe was the abundance of super-yachts. The marinas at Capri, Sardinia, Barcelona, and Monaco were filled with crews and owners trying to stuff cases of supplies into their monster yachts so they could run away from wherever the rock was going to hit. Most planned to run as quickly as they could to the Southern Hemisphere where they thought they could be safe. Yachts hundreds of feet long were covered in boxes, many of the owners refused to take any friends on the journey, they didn’t know how long their supplies were going to have to last so the less mouths to feed the better. Many owners also cut the number of crew they took; this caused many fights to break out. Armed bodyguards quickly settled the issue by killing the terminated crew members who had refused to leave the ships.
One after another the massive ships left their docks and once in the Atlantic, they headed south. They didn’t know where to go, but they knew the further south they went the better their chances were. The owners had bought life insurance in case they didn’t survive. Many brought gold, some famous paintings, while some brought young women, leaving their families home, and almost all brought heavily armed bodyguards.

The broken off splinters of ‘Robert’s Rock’ flew through space along with their mother. They slightly spread out from the main rock giving NORAD, NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Russian Space Agency trouble plotting where they would land. President Lanoha was holding a meeting with the Directors of FEMA and the Secretary of DHS. They were discussing the relocation of millions of people when his CoS entered the Situation Room, “Mr. President, Dr. Milton is on a secure link, he said he has some urgent information which can’t wait. He said to tell you, he’s linked in NORAD with him on the call, General William Sherman is with him.”
“Put him on, maybe they have figured out where the rock and the splinters we stupidly broke off will land.” He turned to the DHS and FEMA people, “Stay, I want you to hear this and then I may need your input.”
The large monitor came on, Dr. Milton and General Sherman’s images were split screened. General Sherman said, “Mr. President, we’re sorry to interrupt you, our tracking computers have finally figured out where the rock and the splinters are going to land.”
“I’m waiting. Should I be holding my breath?”
The Russian president asked a question that was on everyone’s mind. “What about the splinters from the chucks broken off from the rock?”
One of the techs replied, “Very bad news. A large one is going land in the ocean a few miles off of New York City. It will generate a tidal wave which will wash away most of the cities from Boston to Norfolk, maybe all the way to Savannah. Another is going to land in the Pacific close to Japan, one is going to land close to Hong Kong and smaller ones in Europe and a large one in North Korea near one of their major nuclear sites.”
President Lanoha shook his head, “You do believe in delivering bad news, don’t you? Okay, let’s assume your calculations are correct, I want to see a workup on what the result of the rocks will be and I want to see it tonight.”
Milton nodded, “Sir, we have a preliminary work up and it’s not good. Sir, the splinters will land a day before the main rock.”
“SHIT! That’s an appetizer we don’t need. Okay, let’s start with the main rock, tell me what’s going to happen…”
