what happened to the sandwich? - he asks with sarcasm. - Your house doesn't have any food, does it?

- Of course you do, but I like yours better. - I answer by picking up the spoon from the drawer he indicated.

Ryder shakes his head from side to side and smiles. I go back to the couch and sit beside him, nesting in his chest as I always did. Ryder takes control and chooses an action movie. Putting a blanket over us, he covers us and we spend the rest of the day watching television. I loved those moments and I thanked God that we made peace, because I would miss my friend very much. After the third movie and I sprayed his wound, Ryder fell asleep with his head on my lap. Tired, I decided to do the same and fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter 06

Ryder

I spend half the next Tuesday of the week putting together the damn thesis. I had a headache from thinking so much. I wanted to put my head in the fridge to see if my brain would freeze and hurt less. Brooke had left the research notes for me to insert them into the project, since I wouldn't go to class and she would have to work that night.

- How can Brooke concentrate on this shit?

He grumbled softly by passing his hand over his face. I sigh as I remember Brooke's cafuné as we watched the movies and how relaxed I was under the touch of those fairy hands. I'd give anything for a little of that feeling again. I was so tired and in so much pain, I ended up sleeping. Almost at the beginning of the night, Brooke decided to go back to his dormitory because she was worried about Jane. I wanted to take her, but Brooke refused, claiming I needed rest. She was already at the door of the apartment, when I decided to invite her to watch the game at the end of the semester together. That had been an impulse, but the invitation had been true. To my surprise, Brooke accepted, so I arranged to meet her at the south bleachers instead of picking her up.

- Oh, shit! - I grumble by typing another wrong line.

Sighing, I get up and close my notebook and go to the gym for a little practice. My abdomen didn't hurt so much anymore and I could move better. Not with such agility, but at least I could give you some. Around 5:00 p.m., the bell rings and I'm gonna get it. It was my mother, who was horrified by the marks on my face that were already disappearing.

- So that's why I got that call from Brooke! - says my mother entering the room. - You should stop this fighting thing. One hour I'll have to pick him up at the hospital and he'll be the basis for a nice beating.

I let out a laugh, then I kiss my mother's face.

- I swore Brooke was just trying to fool me. - I say by making a face. - She's really very mean.

My mother laughs at my face.

- How's Brooke? - ...she asks while she was grabbing the juice glass.

- All right! All right! By now you should be preparing for the game at the end of the semester.

- Brooke plays?

- No. We agreed to watch the game together. We'll go to the exhibition together, too.

- That's great! - it vibrates. - Brooke is a sensational girl!

- Mom, it's just a game! - I say shaking my head. - Jace and Amanda will be there too.

- I was talking about the exhibit. - she smiles. - You guys make such a beautiful couple.

Making a face, I disapprove of my mother's attitude.

- We're just friends, Mom. - I respond by sighing. - Brooke is the friend I've never had and there's no way in the relationship I can get past that!

- Don't spit in the air!

The door suddenly opens and a tangle of red curls enters the room like a hurricane. I thank Viola for being untimely and interrupting the conversation, which was going in a direction I did not want.

- Hey, firecracker! - I say laughing and kissing her forehead. - I didn't know you were coming, too.

- I was parking the car. - she makes a face. - You look awful! I hope the other one's a lot worse.

I loved that spirit of my cousin's. She liked to go to the fights, but it wasn't every time I could get her. She asks for Brooke and tells him, in a very cheerful way, about the feat she had managed to convince my aunt to accept Mike as her date.

- Well, we're going to a basketball game today. You want to go?

- Sure! - Viola responds by clapping her hands. - I really need to thank you. She really is an angel. I can't believe she agreed to make that sacrifice for a stranger.

Brooke had made a deal with his mother that he would use whatever she wanted if Viola could be accompanied by Mike. So far there have been six ridiculous dresses that even Cinderella wouldn't wear to find the prince. Luckily, none of them looked good in a suit and always had a flaw. I'd die of laughter every time Brooke showed one of them.

- The promise she made to her mother in exchange for it is being very painful to keep. - I'll take a break. - Sure, that for her.

I let out a laugh as I remember the various parades in ridiculous
