girlfriend?

“Thank You.” I whispered. Oh goodness, I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to know what he was going to do.

“Are you going to call the police on me?” He chuckled lifting his spoon back to his mouth. When he looked up at me his eyes had become wicked. With what I assumed was a grin, he shook his head.

“Nah shorty, I don’t deal with the police. I handle those that cross me my way.” He spooned another bit of cereal into his mouth.

Oh God! Oh God! What did he mean?

I cleared my throat.  “And how do you handle people that cross you?”

“I kill them.” He said that so matter of fact that it took me a minute to comprehend those words. I swallowed, as images of him putting that gun he had pointed at me last night against my temple came to the forefront of my mind. I could just imagine him pulling the trigger.

“Relax! I’m not going to kill you. I have other plans for you.”

“What other plans?”

“My attorney has been telling me for a while now that I need a wife. That’s where you come in.” As he spoke those words he pointed his spoon at me. My mouth dropped.

“A wife!” I squeaked. Confused at what he was saying. Surely he wasn’t suggesting that he wanted me to be his wife.

“But I don’t understand. What about your girlfriend?” He frowned.

“What girlfriend?”

“The one that lives here with you.”

“Nah shorty, I live here alone.”

He spoke as if he was getting irritated with me. I chewed my bottom lip, I didn’t want to irritate him but he was overloading me right now. I turned to look back toward the door, judging the distance between me and it. I had to get out of here. I needed to make a run for it.

And then a thought crossed my mind.

If it was a wife he was looking for, plenty of the girls at Shugga’s Place would be more than willing to fulfill his request. They all spoke about how much they wanted him to choose them for the evening? And just think, if they were that excited about an evening, they would be ecstatic for a more permanent arrangement.

Yeah, that’s it! I smiled, and he sucked in his breath as if he had been punched.

“If it’s a wife you’re looking for, I know where you can find one!”  For a moment, he just stared at me. Then he chuckled shaking his head slightly. He spooned more cereal into his mouth, as his unsettling gaze settled on me as he chewed.

“I already found one.” He assured when his mouth was empty.

I swallowed, not liking the sound of that. I looked back toward the door.

“Who?” I asked although I already knew what he was about to say.

He smiled at me then, and chills raced down my spine. This man was a killer, everything about him screamed of his violence. His eyes were hard, so much so, his smile never reached them. His well muscled body looked as if it carried enough strength in it to do serious damage to someone.

Even the way he sat at the table with his mighty arms on it. His hands were big and rough. There were scars and bruises across his knuckles, probably because he hit people with them, like he had hit the guard that was looking at me inappropriately last night.

What have I gotten myself into?

He pointed the spoon at me. “You!”

“Me!” I screeched putting my hand to my chest. My heart began to accelerate at an alarming pace. I looked behind me toward the door. The overwhelming feeling of being trapped starting to make me feel like I was suffocating.

“Mmmm hmmm…” He replied, chewing his cereal with powerful jaws as he looked at me with cold unrelenting eyes. I should not be here with this man. He was dark and dangerous, and way outside of my limit of understanding.

Dear God, I had to go… now!

My freedom was just on the other side of that door. I snatched my bag up from the floor, standing so abruptly that my chair fell backwards. I didn’t waste any more time before I was running as fast as I could toward that door. Praying it wasn’t locked.

“Yasmin, don’t run from me!” He roared.

I looked back just in time to see him stand. His rage had transformed his face into something dreadful to behold. He balled up his fist and hit the table causing it to fly across the room and shatter against the wall like glass. Wood pieces flew everywhere.

Dear God!

Then he was moving, fast. Faster than anything I had ever seen. With amazing strength and agility, he leaped over the kitchen island. A scream came from my throat as I turned back toward the door that was only a feet away.

Please be unlocked! Please be unlocked!

With hands that shook I reached for the knob, but before my fingers could even touch it a strong arm came around my waist snatching me back as if I was a rag doll. He held me off my feet with one arm, and used his other hand to snatch my bag out my hand.

I panicked!

He was taking my home away from me. I went wild in his arms. He let me go, but I was back on him trying to get my treasures.

“Give it to me!” I screamed in his face. He held it up out of my reach and I clawed at his arm. The things I had in that bag were all I had left of my family. I didn’t want his violent hands on them.

“Give it to me!” I cried as I pulled at his strong arm trying to lower it enough so that I could reach my bag. I was so focused on getting it back that when my eyes lowered to his for just a second it was to see a predatory look in his gaze that snatched my breath away.

It was then that I notice that in
