When Owen kissed me, I felt wanted. Like I was the only woman in the world, and that he needed my lips just as much as I craved his. I could lay here like this kissing him all night, and I'd never grow bored of it.
After a while he finally pulled away from me, and I tried to pull him back. His stomach growled loudly then, and he laughed before pecking the end of my nose.
“As much as I'd like to stay just like this, Unicorn. I'm starving.”
“Me too.” I sadly admitted, sticking my bottom lip out for good measure.
He quickly sucked my protruding lip back into his mouth, and I giggled.
“That's a beautiful sound.” He said running his hand up, and down my back.
I didn't know how to respond, so I just snuggled against him. I felt him tense up, and I pulled away propping myself up on my elbow.
“Is everything alright?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He said softly. “It's just... I haven't exactly cuddled with anyone since Abigail.”
“I'm sorry.” I said, as I reached for the bed sheet so that I could cover myself. “I wasn't thinking.”
“No.” He said, tucking a strand of loose hair behind my ear. “I'm sorry. Don't leave. Please.”
I leaned over to kiss him. “On one condition.”
“Name it.”
“Order food.”
“Done.” He laughed, before springing out of the bed to grab his phone.
I couldn't help but admire his toned backside as I watched it walk away, and soon I was sporting the most ridiculous grin in the world. I can't believe that we finally hooked up, and the best part? It was even better than I imagined it could be. Just thinking about the way his hands felt while roaming my body had me wanting him all over again.
I tried to shake the naughty thoughts away as I left the bed in search of my clothing. I made quick work of putting everything back on while Owen placed our dinner order. When he came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, he had a pair of black sweatpants on. I was sitting on the end of the bed, and he came to stand in front of me.
“I uh feel like such an idiot right now.” He said, awkwardly. “I can't believe I didn't ask you before we- I mean, fuck. Are you on birth control?”
I laughed. “Do you think I would have climbed onto your lap if I wasn't?”
“Hell, I don't know things were pretty hot, and heavy, and neither one of us were thinking with our heads.”
“Are you saying you wish we hadn't?”
“No! God no. Fuck, I'm really putting my foot in my mouth here.”
I stood then, cupping his face in my hands. “It's fine. We're fine.” I assured him. “Now, what did you order for dinner?”
He smiled. “I had to use Uber eats, so the options weren't the best. You'd think being in 'Ocean City' there would be more to choose from.”
“It's more of a tourist trap. Did you order something local?”
“I ordered the jerk chicken from a place called Seacrets.”
“I could literally eat anything right now.”
“Anything?” He winked.
I swatted his chest playfully, my hand landing on a tattoo of a mermaid suddenly making me curious.
“What does this one mean?” I asked, tracing over the ink with my finger.
“That was a fast subject change.” He teased. “I got it for my niece.”
“I thought you were an only child?”
“I am.” He nodded. “My best friend has a six year old little girl. I'm her pseudo uncle.”
“That's sweet.”
“What about you? Do you like kids?”
I laughed. “Who doesn't like kids?”
“You'd be surprised.”
“I thought I was ready to have one.” I said, gauging his reaction.
“With Derek?” He asked.
I nodded, and he gestured for us to sit on the end of the bed.
“I just assumed that after the wedding, and the opening of the boutique we'd be able to really settle down and start a family.”
“Do you still want that?”
“A family? Yes.”
“I mean, Derek. Is there still a part of you that wants to make it work with him?”
If he had asked me when this trip first started, I wouldn't have known how to answer. My heart, and mind were conflicted with each other the second I walked in on him with another woman. But now? Now I was seeing things clearly. The two of us never would have worked, and I never would have been able to be one hundred percent myself.
“No.” I answered without hesitation. “I'm a firm believer in the past, staying in the past. There are things that I could forgive, but cheating? That will never be one of them. I honestly never understood the point of it. If you stop loving someone, then set them free. And if you have a choice to make between the one you're with, and someone else. Always choose the someone else, because if you truly loved your partner, there would only be one choice.”
“I don't think it's that black, and white. Especially when you've got a long history with someone.”
“It doesn't matter. What he did is beyond repair, and there's no convincing me otherwise.”
“So if he showed up right now, and confessed his love to you?”
“I'd slam the door in his face.”
“That easy?”
“That easy.”
Someone knocked on the door then, and Owen stood to answer it. I glanced around him, to see that our food had arrived. My stomach chose then to growl loudly, and when Owen set the bag down I was practically drooling from the smell. The jerk chicken came with a honey mustard sauce on the side, and he'd also ordered Jamaican fries. They were cut into large wedges, and sprinkled with a blend of homemade spices.
“I wish we didn't have to leave in the morning.” I said, after I
