For a second LeBron had been staring at an older woman with psycho eyes who couldn’t figure out why the door was flying open and pulling her arm with it. The grey-haired woman was wearing a turtleneck and a pencil skirt. The teal covered turtleneck was covered in blood on the front of it. She looked like the cover model for a library themed zombie movie. Her lips peeled back from her teeth as she lunged forward to attack LeBron. LeBron was frozen in fear. He felt like his insides had all been soaked in ice water. He was positive he was about to die right until the open door slammed into the librarian from hell knocking her spinning to the ground.
“What the hell!” Bart yelled from the back trying to sit up and see through the haze of narcotics Yue had given him. Now the extremely buzzed old warrior was waving his pistol around trying to figure out if he should be shooting something. None of that boded well for the people in the truck. The crawlerz were probably perfectly safe.
Yue was turned around in her seat with her pistol pointed into the back where they’d all heard the window shatter. That loud completely unexpected noise had been what startled Yue and Bart awake. Waking up to the big truck going backwards at full speed through a dark parking lot with enraged nightmare beasts trying to break in from every angle was a lot. Yue started yelling at Bart to get down so she could see if there actually was something in the back of the Expedition. She couldn’t tell with her dad sitting up flailing his pistol everywhere.
The librarian had gotten up and was chasing them across the parking lot. A pair of arms appeared on the side of the busted out back window followed by a face a second later. A face that Yue and Bart put multiple bullets through and all around. They kept shooting until the body tumbled off to the side. Yue wasn’t sure how accurate her dad he been in all the excitement. She wouldn’t be super surprised if they found holes in the roof the following day. Assuming they were still alive the following day.
A big assumption at the moment. Drew saw the trees and bushes at the end of the parking lot in the rear-view camera view. A pale hand slapped the glass right next to his face. Not really knowing what was going to happen he slammed on the brakes and turned the wheel hard to the left. The rear of the car swung to the left which was fortunate since that was the way he wanted to go. Hoping he wasn’t going to blow up the transmission he shifted into drive. Nothing exploded, so he switched his foot back from the brake to the accelerator and stomped down hard.
The Expedition spun out for a couple of seconds then the tires grabbed hold and they shot off towards the main road. The crawlerz chasing them shifted their trajectories to aim right at them again. Drew couldn’t tell how many of them there were. He’d heard Yue yelling at him that she’d killed one. They were everywhere banging on the sides of the truck trying to get in. He saw LeBron prepping to shoot the next time he saw anything through his window. So much for having a vehicle that kept the rain outside of it.
Yue screamed when a bloody hand smashed through the window right beside her head. They’d heard the crawler out there beating on the side of the Expedition. It must’ve been squatting on the runner and beating on the door. The hand it shoved at Yue now was a broken mess. It hadn’t been able to handle the abuse of pounding on the side of the heavy-duty Expedition. The broken fingers refused to work right for the monster which is why Yue wasn’t snatched right out of the window.
She raised her pistol shooting at the crawler while sliding backwards away from the shattered glass. The eerily quiet crawler was pushing its way in through the shattered window when one of Yue’s bullets found it’s mark. She was basically on top of LeBron by that point. Yue continued screaming her head off and pulling the trigger without even looking. She didn’t look up until she was out of bullets. The body of her attacker was firmly stuck in the window with multiple blood drenched bullet holes.
Drew turned the wheel hard to miss one that was trying to jump right through the windshield. They skidded off the dirt road onto the baseball diamond. Drew kept the pedal floored to round the bases as fast as possible. He wanted nothing more than to be driving them out over the same hedges they’d arrived through earlier.
“Do you see them!” He yelled back behind him.
“There’s two of them still coming!” LeBron yelled back. Yue was busy trying to push the corpse of her kill back out the window before it dripped brain gunk all over her. She’d be hitting the hand sanitizer hard if they made it out of there alive.
Drew didn’t slow down when he saw the small drainage ditch in front of them. He had no idea how many of those things were out there converging on them right now. Slowing down was death. Driving at a high-speed right into a ditch might also be death. He yelled
