“You guys sure know how to take all the damn fun out of something. I mean how often is it that you getta blow up a whole goddamn horde of zombies and save the day?”
Scott said, “If you can talk Pilot Bob into it, Earl, you have my absolute blessing to go up in the air with him when he drops a huge white payload of our zombie killing concoction and you can be one of the first ones to say you were there then.”
Earl laughed, smiling while turning around going back to guiding the plane up with the winch, saying, “Huge white load, that's what she said.”
Scott didn't care what his retort was from Earl; he just wanted to make sure he knew the importance of what he was doing right now. Shaun yelled for Greg to climb down and he did as asked. By the time he got down they had gotten quite a few bucket loads placed into the manure pile. If they were not all rusty all jagged bolts it would have been shining in the daylight reflecting down on it. Shaun looked at the makeshift destruction and thought that they might just stand a chance.
Clary said, “You think you're good to go with your gun for the long shot? I know short things you're good to go but if you feel more comfortable having Greg take the shot just say something.”
“I don't care who takes the shot so long as somebody does. I think the best idea here is to get the gas already coming out so that it's under and in the manure. We can put a flare on the side and shoot that to get it to ignite and cause the explosion between the propane and the manure and hopefully send a wave of Hell in every single direction hopefully taking out all of the Turned that we have to deal with.”
“Well, I'd have to say that you probably have grown up more than a little bit since you've been gone, Shaun. Between us, it does take a real man to be able to pass on an opportunity as big as this one.”
Shaun said, “It’s been a rough year. The one before that wasn't a hell of a lot better either. Quite frankly I could use a vacation. Besides, I might not need to take the shot but I guarantee everybody knows it was Einstein that made the bomb. Nobody knows who it was that delivered it, do they?”
“I feel like this might not be quite as big of a boom as Einstein's but it should serve for our purpose for sure.”
“Like I said, so long as it gets rid of these things so we can make a getaway.”
Greg was laughing walking up to the two of them saying, “So there's an entire horde sprinting as fast as they can. We're focusing on hooking up an airplane onto a trailer courtesy of a little know-how from a redneck, then to make it better, quite literally, we're relying on a shitty idea, excuse the pun, to blow these things up and we hope that the shrapnel which are screws, nails, bolts and God knows what else is going to be able to penetrate their healing skin. Does that sound about right?”
“Yeah, but when you say it like that it just sounds like such a bad idea,” Shaun replied with a smirk of confidence.
Clary looked seeing Earl coming around the bend of the Morton shed hauling the plane and he could see where the straps were holding it down going directly across its landing gear. Clary said, “Holy shit you did it. This damn guy is proving more resourceful by the minute. Don't tell him that, because I'll deny it and then kill you. On a side note I don't know if I'm going to actually want him to leave. It's nice having someone else around with a little bit of mechanical aptitude without having to have it in blueprints directly in front of them.”
Scott leaned out the side of the truck saying, “Did you guys want to keep standing around and discussing your feelings or do you think maybe we ought to get moving on now and get off this farm?”
Earl didn't give anyone the chance to reply and yelled, “You guys get your asses on this here truck or I’m gonna leave all of y'all behind, now get it moving!”
Clary gave a look at Earl not filled with love; Earl’s Cheshire cat smile faded away quickly. Earl said, “Just kidding Clary, I'm just kidding, buddy.”
Clary gave a thumbs up and pointed to a hill far in the distance so far away that if this did not work that they should hopefully be able to keep the amount of space they need in between themselves and the Turned.
Earl said, “So we're pretty confident about this, Clary?”
“A little late now to change our minds. Besides, I got nothing but confidence in that young man and his ideas. But on the off-chance things go to shit, you make sure we get the plane unhitched as quickly as fucking possible, do you understand!
“Unhook her or we die, yeah I think I got it, thanks.”
The four drove up the hill, realizing they were not going to win any races towing this plane behind them. The trailer was less than impressive and was not going to win any beauty pageants. Earl was doing his best to stay still as they drove and stopped at the top of the hill where Clary had pointed to. Earl asked, “How's this?”
Clary gave a thumbs up and looked at Shaun and Greg. Greg said, “You can take it if you want to. I mean I wouldn't want you to feel bad
